I've got a sell signal on the Dow today - IF I was trading it.
But I would be happier to wait for confirmation tomorrow.
Trouble is the Dow moves so fast, by the time it confirms it is too late.
Shorted Reuters today.
This is useful for watching the

Evening all:
The dow is trendless at present and i feel we should scalp as many points that come fomfortable and the little trades accumulate to give the total rather than rely on the trend being our friend as it ends up giving us a kick in the choppers!!!!!

hello everybody:
Are we ready for our battle with the Dow today????
Philosophical start to the day today with the following lines by Sun Tzu:
THE GENERAL WHO WINS A BATTLE MAKES CALCULATIONS IN HIS TEMPLE BEFORE
THE BATTLE IS FOUGHT.
THE GENERAL WHO LOSES A BATTLE MAKES BUT A FEW CALCULATIONS BEFOREHAND.THUS
DO MANY CALCULATIONS LEAD TO VICTORY AND FEW CALCULATIONS TO DEFEAT.
Good morning to you all

My calculations still indicate a sell on the Dow.
I am not trading them though.
Morning all.

To all the friends:
While waiting for the dow market to open I am taking this time to give you an insight as to how I do money management on my trades (with flexibility of course -its not laid in stone and can be altered as market dictates)
so here goes my scheme:
The formulae
You might think we are just risk averse wimps, but nevertheless if you have got this far don't let ignoring money management ruin an otherwise excellent trading methodology
A good money management system is simple and the biggest aid to security and successful profits. Once it gets going, it compounds and works for you, not against you.
My simple method to calculate bet size is as follows:
Bet Size = (Capital X 5%) divided by the stop
For example
1. Capital say 5,000
2. Maximum risk per trade 5%
3. Stop points per trade 20 points (e.g. FTSE100)
Bet Size = 12.50 = (5000 X 5% )Divided by 20
Using this formula we now know that a bet of 12.50 per point is within our stop loss parameters.

zarif, are you going long and short simultamenously - who are you trading with, and are you bets SPREADBETS?
i get the impression you're hedging it both ways.
also, thanks for the above.
cheers and good luck for the balance of the day!

Terod:
I am with igindex anf I am using spreads with them (mind you their spread is heavy):
What i did was when the market reached a high I took a Short and folloed it down and scalped the profit. Then when it was at near bottom took out a long and closed it out at 9643 (opened at 9595) and harvested the profit.imultaneously took another short at 9643 and am looking at the profit building up.
My motto on days like today is "never let greed ruin a small profitable position"

nb: sometimes i do take out both long and short at same time (depending on the parameters if they allow to take profit both ways.

btw have u started trading on these yet. I think I am going to suggest to Snoball,Jules, Megabuks etc if we can also start putting on info (obviusly with no recourse to anyone) If we can put from our analysis, speculation etc.regarding what the:
trend direction
resistance levels
suggested entry and exit points for next days longs and shorts
support lines etc
any other things that you may wish to be put on and then see if we can formulate a system which hopefully we can make work
What do you think of this idea??

zarif, snoball (your nickname reminds me of home...i'm canadian!), jules...
re the Dow, based on the system i'm using, the trend is still UP. based on a 3mth historic view (c.sticks) with EMA=14 indicator. if today ends negative the trend will start to move sideways. It's a pretty basic system which appears to work.
try going to BIGCHARTS.COM select DJIA, click on interactive charting to set the paramaters and have a look if you've got time.

terod,
I used to live in St Albert, near Edmonton, Alberta.
Back in the late seventies and early eighties.
Re your 14 ema - nice and simple. The best systems
are simple, I think.
Do you trade on the crosses or do you have a trailing stop?

the system purely highlights buy/sell opportunities, triggered by v.specified entry points. e.g. HG. on 2/10 indicated buy @ 188.25 (this is end-of-day research) next trading day, it also told me to abort the trade if the price hit 181.50 first. as it happened HG. hit the entry point as has yet to fall back to the abort level. what i would have hoped to achieve was precise entry, or as close to as market allowed and then to sell when my profit target was hit.
if i was holding until the trend change or the abort line hit, i'd certainly have used a trailing stop.
i've been paper trading this strategy for some time now and it throws up some wonderful opportunities!
enjoy your evening.

Good afternoon to all:
Are we ready at the helm of our "seats" waiting for the dow to open??
Is it going to be plain sailing or arte we in for atempest. I reckon it is going to be choppy waters and if we are on the ball should be able to reel in a few fish -Watch out for the sharks though they bite!!!
What are the levels we should watch for today???
Ps:We havenot had jules on the board for a few days _ i trust everything is alright with her trading.
