UBS pointed out that Centrica has “exceptional balance sheet strength”, which it could use to make more acquisitions, such as Monday’s £141m deal to up its stake in the North Sea’s Statfjord field.

But analysts suggested that if the company does not find sufficient investment opportunities, then a special dividend – a one-off payment of cash to shareholders – could be an option. “We believe that the payment of a special dividend of up to 23½p-per-share is possible in 2012; although Centrica would likely target a lower pay-out in order to leave headroom for further acquisitions,” said UBS.


“Strong cashflows mean such a payment could also be repeated in future years,” it added.

Well something spooked it at @3:40 ish.

possibly a bit giddy as it came close to 200 dma, but there should be support at 290 at 50 dma

LONDON (Dow Jones)--Citigroup Inc. (C) is the sole bookrunnner on the placing of about 200 million shares of Centrica PLC (CNA.LN), traders said Wednesday.

The placing is being conducted between 294.5 pence and 297.75 pence a share, and the traders linked the placing shares to the stake held by Petroliam Nasional Bhd.

At 1630 GMT, Centrica's shares were down 2.8% at 294 pence.

Citigroup wasn't immediately available to comment.
