Forgot what I had come in for......not my usual tonight, the triggering of all those stop losses in one day requires something strong ....Remy Martin, I think, large ...... unless GD has something stronger in that cellar....

How are you all this evening?

optomistic - 04 Oct 2004 22:46 - 15256 of 23498

Evening jj. Still can't decide where to set these stops. Not going to lose any sleep over it though and that Remy Martin sounds very tempting :-)

Priscilla - 04 Oct 2004 22:56 - 15257 of 23498

I'll have some too if there's any left, please

jj50 - 04 Oct 2004 22:57 - 15258 of 23498

Join me opto. Warmed glass brimming full of Remy on bar waiting for you.

Well I have had an "interesting" day on the stop loss front! I have been looking at the charts and seeing where the support point is and setting it there. However, as expected, bit of a disaster on the small cap front because even allowing for the spread, etc. two spiked tonight and that was them gone!!!! Quick way of consolidating my long term portfolio though... I think for the FTSE it does make sense though because I do have some quite hefty losses - Compass, Man, etc. and losses would have been minimised. Because of annoying sales triggered in the past, I had stopped using them and just doing it by eye but my eyes are much better at seeing things going up, than down!! David Jones the Chartist chap who writes in Shares mag. gave a talk and it just seemed I needed to re-think strategy. Shall let you know what I think in a month's time with a mountain of cash and no investments!! Regards. J

jj50 - 04 Oct 2004 22:57 - 15259 of 23498

Boy, I am beginning to sound a real bore. Get a life Jennifer!!!

optomistic - 04 Oct 2004 22:58 - 15260 of 23498

Priscilla I think there is only the two of us left in here, we should have ample to give us a warm glow:-)

optomistic - 04 Oct 2004 23:00 - 15261 of 23498

Sorry missed you jj. I hope it's a large mountain!!

amberjane - 04 Oct 2004 23:00 - 15262 of 23498

enthused is how I'd put it Jennifer, evening all. Mind you been dithering myself today with PDL!

jj50 - 04 Oct 2004 23:04 - 15263 of 23498

Sorry Priscilla didn't see you there. Glass poured.

Amberjane you here too - think you missed that bit of the presentation!!! How are things? Dithering with PDL sounds a bit odd. What will you have to drink? Shall get you something and then must head off as still things to do and an early start.

Suppose I should really update those d*****d stop losses - forget it!

Have a good evening all.

optomistic - 04 Oct 2004 23:05 - 15264 of 23498

jj. those stops and support, it all depends on how far below the price the support is, could always be risky in getting taken out by normal market movement if it is trading too close to the support. There has to be an answer to this.

optomistic - 04 Oct 2004 23:07 - 15265 of 23498

Hello Amber, are you all clued up with this boring topic?

chocolat - 04 Oct 2004 23:08 - 15266 of 23498

Nah, jj - nice to see you!!
AEN was good today ;)

jj50 - 04 Oct 2004 23:09 - 15267 of 23498

Shall work that one out tomorrow opto! Actually I have set them on the low side but some do have a distinct pattern of repeatedly turning about the same level; let's face it the market is doing well at the moment so I am trying to lock in profit as well as minimize losses ;-) In the past I have tended to go for capital growth to keep CGT within bounds but seem to have given up on that practice!

Amber, was PDL the bald one at the back? :-))

jj50 - 04 Oct 2004 23:12 - 15268 of 23498

Just poured you a drink too choccie. Getting busy in here.... I am supposed to be heading off.... so night, night all...

chocolat - 04 Oct 2004 23:15 - 15269 of 23498

Where are you heading with the brandy, jj?

optomistic - 04 Oct 2004 23:23 - 15270 of 23498

Another bottle here Chocccie.

chocolat - 04 Oct 2004 23:26 - 15271 of 23498

Oh goodie, opto! Purely for medicinal purposes of course.

optomistic - 04 Oct 2004 23:27 - 15272 of 23498

Of course Choccie, we will just have to put up with any side effects.

chocolat - 04 Oct 2004 23:30 - 15273 of 23498

No side to me..
But hey, it's been a cracking day ;)

optomistic - 04 Oct 2004 23:35 - 15274 of 23498

Yup and a long day for me Choccie, must disappear upstairs now, oh that could cause a problem, its a bungilow, never mind I'll sort it out, nice stuff that Remy! night Choccie.
