Dear All,

I am organising this years MoneyAM Golf Day which is in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Fund. It will be a great day out and all for a worthy cause.

Macmillan dedicates itself to giving every person in the land equal and ready access to the best information, treatment and care for cancer.

As this years event is a charity event, the total cost of the whole day will be 85 (around 20 - 25 will be donated from every entry to the Macmillan Cancer Fund). This will include all golfing activities on the day, bacon rolls on arrival, lunch, an evening dinner, and prize giving ceremony.

The winners of this years event (the afternoon's Texas Scramble) will get 1 years free subscription to MoneyAM Level 2, and the prestigious MoneyAM Annual Golf Challenge Cup which the team will share.

Second and Third place teams will each receive medals, plus 6 months worth of MoneyAM Level 2

MoneyAM will also get prizes for 1, 2, 3, nearest the pin and longest drive in the morning Stableford competition. I will present a Wooden Spoon on the day, so you should all be wary of that!

Itinerary for the Day

8.30 am onwards: Arrival at VGC Meet and greet bacon rolls on arrival

9.30 am onwards: 11 hole Stableford Tee off in groups of 3/4 from 8.30AM although I expect a number will arrive after 9.30am, either pre arranged or allocated on the day

From 12.30: Light rolling Lunch after completion of morning Stableford. Menu - Cold Meat Buffet with New Potatoes and Salad.

1.30 pm: 18 Hole Texas Scramble Pre-arranged teams of 4, each player must hit at least 3 drives and handicap is 1/8th of combined total. Individual entries will be teamed up by organiser in advance

What is Texas Scramble? This is a game of 3 or 4 player teams. All players in a team tee off then the team chooses their best drive and all 3 or 4 will play their second shot from that spot. This continues until the hole is completed, including putting out. There are many variations of handicapping and play, so I have chosen a percentage of combined HCP, with each team member taking 3 compulsory drives.

7.00 pm Evening Meal and Prize Giving:

Starter: Homemade Soup

Main: Chicken Breast with Gruyere cheese wrapped in Bacon

Dessert: Fruit crumble served with Custard

As with previous years, I will need to collect the cash of all participants up front, and I think we will follow the method we have done before:

Cheques payable to: R W L Colby
And please send your cheques (with a note giving your MoneyAM username) to the following address: Ian Taylor MoneyAM Ltd Thames House 18 Park Street London SE1 9ER

Ian will then forward them on to me.

The nearest train station is St Albans City which is about 1km north, and there is a very good 3 star Quality Inn 300 yards away on London Road for around 75 per night.

This years event which will be the best ever. I hope to see familiar and new faces alike in what could prove to be the biggest Golf day we have had so far. Although I am sure competition will be fierce, this is also designed to be an enjoyable day for all.

If you are interested in coming along (and all are welcome), please can you indicate so on this thread, and we can then start collating numbers and collecting the cash.

I look forward to seeing you all there,

safety, thanks for your advice..... After a not so very nice talk with the secretary of BBO county, my son has decided to turn professional and has been accepted onto the Jamega tour here in UK...We decided it wasn't worth the hassle for a few tournaments. I haven't the energy any more to fight these things, especially with rude, pompous , out of date secretaries;-)
Hopefully we have made the right decision and his career will be a good one

Jules
I spoke to my mother this morning about possible contacts in the EGU - my Dad used to be involved at a County level before his death. She turned up a couple of names - an ex-President and someone who is currently on the Rules Committee of the EGU. They are both North-East based and I could dif around a bit more if you wanted - but sounds as if you've gone down the lines of least resistance. To be honest it's probably the best idea - I enjoy the game but those involved with it's governance are a right pain in the arse. Let me know if you want me to do anything.

mg... hi, how are you?
... Although it would be interesting to hear their interpretation, I wonder how it would affect Nick in the future..... these guys can be really difficult if they think you are challenging them;-)
Thanks for your concern. If Nick does want to go down that route, I will email you.

The total contribution to Macmillan is standing at 787 at this time.

Regards

Bob

Bugger, I now have a clash on the 4th and can't make it afterall. A real shame but I am determined to get some decent golf in this summer so maybe another time!

Bobcolby - 28 May 2007 12:09 - 170 of 207

Scrip

Sorry you will not make it. A donation to the Macmillan fund via Moneyam (Ian) will be appreciated.

I now have 27 paid entries for competition and I think that will probably be the SP.

We seem to have some wooden spoon champions. I have won it twice. Please note the wooden spoon will not go to the worst score on the day. (Unless you have a single figure HCP).

The last time I won it it was for falling in a river on my follow through. The first time I won it was in Oman, for causing a rule change in the club. I put a ball through a house window. Nobody had ever hit a ball so far out of bounds before.

I have a nice photo of the presentation which I may post if I can figure out how.

A six foot six Dutchman came storming into the club and demanded to know what I was going to do about it. I said I was not sure, I did not know whether I should alter my stance or my swing. His reply was in Dutch so I do not know what he said but every second word started with F and sounded very English.

I will attempt to post teams and tee-off times after all the handicaps are in. This could be a bit difficult. I had Bullie down for a 9am tee-off initially. As I am now informed he is not turning up till 12, I now realise my crystal ball is cracked.

Macmillan fund has now reached 856, I am still hoping for more donations as I have promised them a 1,000+

Bob

PS The first tee off time is now 9am not 8.30. I don't want anyone to miss out on the bacon rolls. I may also change it to 4-balls as some players have asked for this.
