Dowgate Capital - Capitalising on the booming AIM market (DGT)

overgrowth - 09 Feb 2005 20:52

Dowgate Capital (DGT) are sitting in the middle of a goldmine!

This company through their sole trading arm City Financial Associates are looking to take full advantage of the "booming" AIM market this year. Dowgate provide NOMAD (NOMinated ADvisor) services to AIM companies and also have full Corporate Broker status which means that they can fund placements on behalf of the companies they represent.

On first sight, the fact that Dowgate exist in the often veiled financial services sector makes you think twice about investing in company such as this because it would be impossible to understand what they were doing - however, think again!

DGT bring new companies to the AIM (Alternative Investment Market). For each new company "floated" on AIM, they take arrangement fees when acting as NOMAD. After the company is launched then for a nice steady earner DGT get another healthy chunk of cash every year for looking after them (note that all AIM companies must have a nominated adviser - thereby securing a ready source of recurring income).

Because DGT also act as a Corporate broker they can get a very healthy percentage for arranging placement of shares with insititutions before a new company floats. In addition, because placements come outside the sphere of yearly NOMAD work, they can also gain healthy percentages of placements which companies may need to make throughout the year when they need a quick injection of cash to speed growth.

Current NOMADships: 28 companies represented (gives recurring income of approx 480,000 per year)

Current on-going Brokerage agreements: 19 companies (income depends on placements)

For flotations, depending on the size of a company, fees charged will be anything from 50,000 to 100,000+ For placements (the real earner), DGT get anything from 3% to around 12% of the TOTAL AMOUNT RAISED - For example a new company raising 3M though a placement will earn DGT anything from 90,000 to 360,000 ! These figures are indicative as actual deals all differ due to circumstances and DGT sometimes take payment in shares - they still have a tasty chunk of Setstone shares and when this Russian exploration company comes back to AIM, predictions are that the share price will rocket. Note that the amount that this little company can earn in fees is huge and every new deal that comes through we know will contribute another healthy chunk into the bottom line. The good news with every new floatation means that it's another chunk of recurring revenue which could go on for years, with DGT having to do very little. New clients gained in 2005 are:

Mediazest (NOMAD & broker) Elite Strategies (NOMAD) Process Handling (NOMAD) Poland Investment Fund (NOMAD) Nanotech Energy (NOMAD & broker) Archimedia Ventures (NOMAD & broker) Red Leopard Holdings (NOMAD) Alba Mineral Resources (NOMAD & broker) Intandem Films (NOMAD & broker) Motive Television (NOMAD) IncaGold (NOMAD) Sportswinbet (NOMAD & Broker) Infoscreen Networks (NOMAD & Broker) Mark Kingsley (NOMAD & Broker) Croatia Ventures (NOMAD & Broker) Pantheon Leisure (NOMAD) Firenze Ventures (Ofex Advisor) FlightStore Group (NOMAD & Broker) Euro Capital Projects (NOMAD) Pearl Street Holdings (NOMAD) Worldwide Natural Resources (Ofex Advisor) Dovedale Ventures (Ofex Advisor) Other 2005 work completed:Neptune-Calculus VCT offer for subs of up to 12 million Advisory work for TGM on London Bus disposal for 20.4M Advisory work for Creightons on property disposal Advisory work for Hampton Trust on company restructuring Advisory work for Interbulk Investments on acquisition of Inbulk Advisory work for Fundamental-e Investments on two disposals Advisory work for Designer Vision re: Design Rights against Centurion Electronics

stockdog - 16 Mar 2005 12:20 - 157 of 2787

Hi guys, overgrowth, butane, eric - great posts all, well done.

Dipped in today (great pudding, eric!) after the above perfect miniature course in the business of being an AIM broker. It's very comforting to be a able to identify each client and what it's worth to the business. Rounds up my financials sector to the portfolio weight I want to be at for now. Thank you.

Word of warning on Intandem - my area of work. The way I heard it, Chief exec Gary Smith was CEO of Winchester - he burnt through a load of shareholders' cash over a couple of years without anything much to show for it and then finally dumped his holding 13 days before detrimental accounts were published. He is believed to have remarked, "I had no idea the accounts were going to be that bad" or similar!!! Here he goes again, I guess. By the way, Winchester's listing was last year reversed around Cobalt Media and a US producer's film interests and now called ContentFilm plc - what you might call languishing in light of recent government volte face on tax based incentives for UK film industry. Can't see Intandem's prospects as anything but doubtful in current climate - for example there are about three bank's who project lend in the UK film biz - I understand one won't take his paper sales estimates currently. Let's hope they get their placing fee and commission in cash on this one, eh? Sorry to add a mild negative on my first post, but I hope you take it as helpful.

Could be disgruntled holders trying to minimise overall loss (bought in on spike).... like to think major aquisition could follow up... imho of course !

Now lay off dead fred you fellows. He's dead already and adds a sweetly macabre resonance with the CFP of yesterday. The new CFP is going places. Looks like resistance level broken. MMs looking round for stock - the answer is easy, move it highter.

Special welcome to stockdog. Recommended him to NWT which he proceded to analyse, deciding on balance against it. This was just as well as I was referring to No Walkies Today! lol! He also has a good sense of humour fortunately, I hope, otherwise I might be savaged whilst walking my dog! To compensate, felt I had to give him the best tip on the market (he is already into SEO); CFP of course.

Eric

Have to admit you got me with those three - I only made up my names in response as a natural re-action whilst believing them still to be genuine - it's my trusting labrador nature. And look what turned up - NWT - which butane says is a gas (slow-burn, with even, slightly blue flame, methaneks) - perhaps it's kama or anotehr twist on the pin method (think of any three initials and invest in it!) - be interested to see it moving up from 2p to 5p over the year, so might watch for fun.

Sounds like I can add a bit more at a better price over the next period.

Have now caught up with all the RNS's of the last year. Company looks set to motor. I have enormous sympathy with their placing fees being dependent upon successful closing. That's what I do much of the time in my sector. Currently, I'm watching all my projects fall over like nine-pins. Althought Brit Giv offered a hand to stand some of them up again today in the budget. Remember that great movie "I Love You Gordon B Takeless"?

butane

I liked the White Morazabu; buyers dictating the action. Indicators very positive. But might not the resistance level at 0.4p now be fairly and squarely breached? tomorrow will probably establish that one way or the other. If so, there may not be a better buying opportunity. How is the HOLD conclusion drawn? The Indicators say Buy. Last year's finals were 30th march so they can't be far away. Whilst we know that last year's trading disappointed, there must be some quantification of current trading and prospects. From what has been posted on this thread, this could bring in buyers without many sellers. Many have probably bought at significantly higher prices. The charts suggest a new trading area between 0.5 and 0.6p but by July at the latest we should be on much higher ground.
