THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Has anybody ever dwelled on how pathetic this all is? We sit at our little screens banging on about things we have no power over in an effort to boost our inflated ego's. When not doing this we try to outwit the markets by gathering every crumb of news and analysing it every which way in order to steal a march on our fellow punters. I for one am tired of all this crap, maybe its time I retired.

Just heard on the BBC that the government is considering a 'Minister for happiness' (honest I'm not kidding).

Perhaps they should see if John Cleese is available. After all he was minister for 'silly walks'.
Whilst I appreciate that mental health is a serious problem, do we need yet another money draining ministerial position.

TANKER

I agree with you 100% , its a disgrace at the way the US have treated him , and its a disgrace that the UK Government keeps saying its a fair agreement and not one-sided .

Fred1new - 06 Mar 2012 11:14 - 15362 of 81564

Perhaps, Cameron fancies George!

Just an object of distinction.

Haystack - 06 Mar 2012 12:00 - 15365 of 81564

No need to knock down the churches, just convert them into flats to help the housing problems. And the sooner the better. What do we need churches for.

Fred1new - 06 Mar 2012 12:15 - 15366 of 81564

Hays,

For some they are places of friendship, community, memory, charity, moral support and bodily wellbeing, care and some areas of sources of education.

Also for many it is the source of their identity and reason for being.

Of course the above can be provided by other bodies, but often they are not available.

They are also they may become the source of social welfare as the present government wishes to duck its responsibilities more and more.

Haystack - 06 Mar 2012 12:34 - 15367 of 81564

Instead of your list I would suggest places for brainwashing. Religions such as the CoE and their churches are cults just as much as Scientology and similar.

skinny - 06 Mar 2012 12:35 - 15368 of 81564

Converted Churches.

Fred1new - 06 Mar 2012 12:50 - 15369 of 81564

Hays,

Whatever you believe or makes sense to you is OK by me!

But I would think it responsible to evaluate the outcomes of the "cults" before suggesting the have a similar validity.

Some have describe the present tory party as a cult. I wouldn't like my children to believe the information or moral code which their leaders preach.

Haystack - 06 Mar 2012 13:56 - 15370 of 81564

I like the converted churches. There are a few on sale near me. It is good to see the number of active churches falling. One just down the road to me has been converted into quite a nice pub.

greekman - 06 Mar 2012 13:57 - 15371 of 81564

Church v Da Vinci code.

Da Vinci code wins every time

Fred1new - 06 Mar 2012 14:07 - 15372 of 81564

Apparently, church attendances since election have gone up.

Perhaps, due to more individuals thinking they needing absolution.

The Churches often used to own the ground pubs were built on and some churches have attached bars.

Not sure whether they sell spirits.

MightyMicro - 06 Mar 2012 16:37 - 15373 of 81564

Trinity Church in Marlow is now the home of an excellent graphic design company. Arthaus premises

greekman - 06 Mar 2012 16:50 - 15374 of 81564

In a city near to where I live, a Catholic Church has been converted into a night club.
Most nights a week this place is a meeting place for under aged sex and debauchery.
Not much changed there then!

skinny - 06 Mar 2012 16:54 - 15375 of 81564

At least its heterosexual I assume!

Fred1new - 06 Mar 2012 17:04 - 15376 of 81564
