Just an object of distinction.

No need to knock down the churches, just convert them into flats to help the housing problems. And the sooner the better. What do we need churches for.

For some they are places of friendship, community, memory, charity, moral support and bodily wellbeing, care and some areas of sources of education.

Also for many it is the source of their identity and reason for being.

Of course the above can be provided by other bodies, but often they are not available.

They are also they may become the source of social welfare as the present government wishes to duck its responsibilities more and more.

Instead of your list I would suggest places for brainwashing. Religions such as the CoE and their churches are cults just as much as Scientology and similar.

Whatever you believe or makes sense to you is OK by me!

But I would think it responsible to evaluate the outcomes of the "cults" before suggesting the have a similar validity.

Some have describe the present tory party as a cult. I wouldn't like my children to believe the information or moral code which their leaders preach.

I like the converted churches. There are a few on sale near me. It is good to see the number of active churches falling. One just down the road to me has been converted into quite a nice pub.

The Churches often used to own the ground pubs were built on and some churches have attached bars.

In a city near to where I live, a Catholic Church has been converted into a night club.
Most nights a week this place is a meeting place for under aged sex and debauchery.
Not much changed there then!

An atheist (haystack?) was walking through the woods.

'What majestic trees!'
'What powerful rivers!'

He said to himself.

As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him.

He turned to look. He saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him.

He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder & saw that the bear was closing in on him.

He looked over his shoulder again, & the bear was even closer.

He tripped & fell on the ground.

He rolled over to pick himself up but saw that the bear was right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw & raising his right paw to strike him.

At that instant moment, the Atheist cried out:
'Oh my God!'

Time stopped.
The bear froze.
The forest was silent.

As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky.

'You deny my existence for all these years, teach others I don't exist and even credit creation to cosmic accident.'

The atheist looked directly into the light, and said: 'It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the BEAR a Christian?'
