Microsoft bloatware needs plenty of RAM and a fast processor, if your computer is more than 2 years old it probably isn't worth trying it.

I'm also thinking of upgrading. Lots of friends have XP and they are quite impressed. I'm using Windows Me at present and it's not too bad but XP is better it seems. Nobody I've met has had trouble upgrading so I'm trying to pluck up courage to do it. Only problem is coughing up the rhino! Maybe I should ask Jeff for a loan.

Register interest with BT. They won't upgrade the exchange unless they have sufficient interest then once it gets to the target figure they will install the necessary gubbins. Are you in a cable TV area? I presume not since you would have said!
OK, are there any cool drinkies in the fridge?

My apologies, your post was not there when I started to answer above. Great to see you in again. It's been awful quiet here. Have you been off on another board or are you just being reticent?

Oh I am delighted to see some friendly faces in the old bistro once more.

Some one came on and said to expect news about a particular council wanting building land for housing immigrants/asylum seekers. I'm not certain which council was supposed to be considering this but I am not putting any credence on it. Rumour is just rumour until something solid comes out.
Also, there is a possibility of the Burford land being used for a housing development for RAF Brize Norton. They, the MOD, are apparently looking for 300 houses and Burford is only a few miles away.
Add to that a general feeling of confidence returning in aviation and Wiggins could be on the upturn. Cuneo doing well, possibilities at Lahr, Manston getting busier little by little and mooted big developments in the middle east. It doesn't take much to turn sentiment and that is what seems to be occuring.
Thats enough of that. Any more needs to be on the WGG thread.

How does it feel to be a Guru? I am still in "student" mode and testing my selections, some OK others not so good. Just at present two of my more recent selections are coming up trumps. One is a Vasey favoutite DYS and the other SVB. SVB was a bit of a risky punt, especially with the open offer looming, but it went well and is going north quite nicely.
As you know I was sceptical about MEG, and you concurred. It has done nothing since and Slater is still pushing it like crazy. I will be interested to see what it does in time. Incidentally, Slater is friends with EK so Goodfella would probably identify him positively. Slater has loads of threads on Sharecrazy.com and pushes his stocks like mad.

Sounds like you should be OK for XP. I'm told by friends that some programmes run faster in XP despite the bloatware. I shall have to push the boat out sometime but I'm back in that old dilemma. I want to upgrade to XP 155, I want a flat screen display, around 450. I want a faster processor, that's new motherboard and processor another 250+. I might as well buy a new system with all the bells and whistles 1000.
Right, whos turn to make the tea?

Sorry to hear about your XP problems. Odd thing though, the only person I know with problems also is using a laptop. I have no proof but I think it may be to do with power saving and battery voltage. Whenever his problems arise it's always after a power down after he's left it on battery too long.

I also bought a Toshiba laptop last year with XP. Its been as god as gold for 14 months now. Every PC/Laptop I have had previous I have had to rebuild every 6-9 months. But this laptop and XP have been problem free.

Good morning Jeffmack, are you at work again? Up and posting so early in the day can't be good for you. Why are you such a disaster area for computers, I've only had two in ten years, and only got the second one as an upgrde. Only ever had one failure and that was a hard disc went duff.
Sounds like your Toshiba is a good machine though. Our company is currently buying Acer machines. When I was with the MoD they were a recommended supplier and that was on the basis of build standard. Mind you that was ten years ago.

Moat Microsoft programmes are generally termed bloatware. If you think back, right from Windows 5.1 upwards, most MS operating systems and apps have required large increases in disk space. I'm interested to know what space XP requires, I bet it's a big increase on the Windows ME I have at present.
