We raise our Afren (OW) base case NAV by c.20% to 222p and set our 220p TP (prev. 185p) in
line with our Base NAV, for 40% potential upside. After working with the company, and reflecting
the explicit terms of the contract, we have remodeled the OML 26 oil field (First Deal through FHN
Unlocking the Prize, 10/21/10). Afren now trades at an 8% discount to Core NAV and is the
cheapest E&P that we cover. We see 3 near-term catalysts that could narrow the valuation gap:
1) First oil from Ebok (late Feb); 2) Presidential decree of the Nigerian Petroleum Industry Bill,
PIB (April); and 3) results from the first well (Block 1101, Madagascar) in the nine well. Afren will
present at our East Africa E&P Conference on 16 March and report FY results on 29 March.
