goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

..Cancer Warning: Coke And Pepsi Change Recipe

By (c) Sky News 2012 | Sky News – Fri, Mar 9, 2012 22:15 GMT

Coca-Cola and Pepsi are changing the recipes for their soft drinks to avoid being forced by law to put a cancer warning on the label.

The caramel colouring in the drinks will contain lower levels of 4-methylimidazole, which has been added to the list of carcinogens in California law.

Coca-Cola's recipe is being changed across the US - but will not be changed in Britain or the rest of Europe (Chicago Options: ^REURUSD - news) .

Under the legislation, drinks containing a certain level of carcinogens must bear a cancer warning label.

Coca-Cola and PepsiCo (Euronext: PEP.NX - news) account for almost 90% of the fizzy drinks market in America.

The changes have already been made for drinks sold in California.

The companies said the new recipes would be rolled out across the US to streamline their manufacturing processes.

Diana Garza-Ciarlante, a spokeswoman for Coca-Cola, said: "While we believe that there is no public health risk that justifies any such change, we did ask our caramel suppliers to take this step so that our products would not be subject to the requirement of a scientifically unfounded warning."

The company later said that while its manufacturers had been asked to change the caramel ingredient, its "secret formula" was not being altered.

The American Beverage Association said the new standard was based on one study linking the chemical to cancer in mice and rats, but added there was no evidence showing that it causes cancer in humans.

The Food and Drug Administration said a person would have to drink more than 1,000 cans a day to reach the doses administered that have shown links to cancer in rodents.

Lib Dem members oppose NHS reforms in conference vote

Lib Dem activists have voted at their spring conference in Gateshead to oppose the government's controversial bill to reform the NHS in England.

The party leadership lost a ballot on the issue by 314 votes to 217.

The decision is not binding on the government, but BBC correspondent Norman Smith said it was a major setback for the Lib Dem leadership.

The party leadership has argued that it has secured major concessions to the bill and it should now become law.

Fred1new - 11 Mar 2012 14:50 - 15515 of 81564

Clegg has sold out to the tory party of Broken Pledge and U-turn Cameron.

I doubt that the libs grass roots will forgive him or his fellow lib cabinet members.

I wonder or suspect Danny Boy Alexander, More and Cleg will renegade their previous principals and join the tory party.

A few more of the present party will disappear into the distance of time.

======

The last thing the NHS needs at the present time is the uncertainty of an expensive reorganisation and privatisation.

Gps and Hospital consultants in general don't have sufficient overall perspective of what is necessary fot a unniveral health and welfare srevices.

The majority of those in favour of the changes seem to me to be doing it out of self interest and their own pockets.

Which seeems to indentify with the present ideology of the tory leadership.

Sad period of British politics.

It looks like the Libs will support NHS reforms within the coalition. Excellent!

Tug boat,

I haven't heard you decry the barbaric acts of an American in Afghanistan or the number of civilians covered by the American and British forces in that country.

I suppose dismembered bodies and civilian dead is unimportant?

Take your blinkers off.

Fred1new - 12 Mar 2012 11:42 - 15521 of 81564

Alds,

Get your dictionary out again and reread the News bulletin.

Also, bear in mind he is in a pre-election phase.

Also, he was referring to illegal immigrants.

Nothing new.

gov to allow first time buyers to buy new property well we all no that new property is over valued and worth only 85% of the new valueso the first time buys will soon be in neg . and we all no you can not sell them on .flats are two a penny no one once them .
the gov are leading them down the road to debt .and we have still not got out of the last failures re are still in recession and thousands more to lose there jobs and those that are working are working for M/W

ahoj - 12 Mar 2012 13:03 - 15525 of 81564

Tanker,
Many first time buyers are paying much more than the interest for rent. They afford to buy, but do not have the initial downpayment to pay.

Your assumption is based on falling house prices further, which is not necessarily correct. House prices in Asia is much higher than here. Population in many of those countries are exploding so the demand in the world is rising fast. The demand in the UK has been high for a year or so, but money has not been available.

Companies which produce something or install them (service industry) are making money like never before. Check BBY, Glen, XTA, oil companies, high tech ones like Apple, Microsoft, telecom, etc. They are doing great, much better than expected.

many of them started to increase salaries, overtime payment etc.

TANKER - 12 Mar 2012 13:12 - 15526 of 81564

ahoj . go to birmingham apartments not worth 70% of what they paid even if they get a buyer the same in most cases .you need to look at the problem no one wants to live in a noise flat because 80% are just that noise .

ahoj - 12 Mar 2012 13:17 - 15527 of 81564

They offer initial guarantee of 5.5% to buy a house. There is no restriction.
If buyer is interested in those apartments, it is OK. Some people may like them.

Yes, I also love houses with garden. But that's my opinion.

TANKER - 12 Mar 2012 13:17 - 15528 of 81564

newhomes will go up now by 5% so will be more over valued .you will not get back what do paid in the next 4 years at least

TANKER - 12 Mar 2012 13:19 - 15529 of 81564

ahoj . i would never live in a semi or a flat i would sooner live in a caravan .
but thats me

ahoj - 12 Mar 2012 13:26 - 15530 of 81564

Don't say that, you gave me more credit by saying that you may live in a caravan!
Change strategy. I hate to say that an economy with higher difference between poor and rich is better..! That's an unfortunate reality!

TANKER - 12 Mar 2012 13:29 - 15531 of 81564

ahoj i do not live in a caravan.but do not dislike them some are very nice .
yes flats are for the poor and semi
