Talk of more airports needed : it seems everbody has forgotten about the new international airport that was built in kent costing 200 million pounds or so by planestation who went bust on it....now wouldn't the best thing to do would be to upgrade the rail link to the kent fast rail link ?...that would probably cost less than a new airport...

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail..... (substitute grades for dollars

It depends on why people work and whether work can be pleasurable of rewarding in itself, Also, whether the rewards from work has always to lead to personal advantage rather than getting other forms of gratification, such as seeing the benefit of the work to other members of the group.

I don't blame those who work any tax loophole that they can get away with, as given the chance I would also do so.
Why pay millions of pounds that you don't need to!
Blame can only lay with the Government in power, who should have closed these tax avoidance schemes years ago, but haven't because they all p**s in the same pot.

When vast amounts of money is wasted (and fiddled) by our leaders, who can blame people of they use every 'legal' way they can to avoid tax.

I like to think I have fairly high morals. All I was trying to do was state that morality very rarely if ever comes into the making or saving of money.
As to personal choice, I try to be as truthful as possible.
I try to put myself in a position of those who are often criticised by their actions.

Being honest, if I came into a vast amount of money and an accountant put a scheme to me that was 'legal' that would save me several thousand pound per year, I am sure I would look at all the fiddling b******s that run our country and decide to take the scheme.
I would ask you the same question.
If you were rich enough (you may already be) to be paying a few million in tax and was offered a 'legal' way to cut that tax bill by say a few thousand or even a couple of mil, would you take it, or take the moral high round and decide to pay every possible penny.
If your answer is pay ever possible penny, I would have no trouble with that.

Note............By legal, I am including all legal tax avoidance schemes

I am not saying you are wrong, and I actually admire and applaud your sentiments view point and your directness.
As said though, I am being honest in stating how I would probably act, IE using every 'legal' means to pay as little tax as possible.
If I was very rich, any spare money via tax avoidance, would go direct to good causes, instead of being wasted by tax payments to the government to squander.
Note, that I do work for several good causes!
Now if our rulers were more moralistic, I might hold different views
I suppose we will have to leave it there.

I remember with a friend, in the 70s who had a thriving business, about taxation.

His business by its volumes produced a lot of "waste" and scrap material, which he got rid of by selling off very profitably for cash.

After doing so, for a number of years he told me that his safe had been stuffed with cash, until he developed a "touch of conscience" and became S scared that either he would be broken into, or the tax man would "cotton on".

He said it took him 2 years to realigne his books and sleep peacefully at night.

Poor B, had a coronary at 46, but died "clean".
