Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

MN,
The main reason for these problems is the lack of knowledge about their culture, and belief.
It is important to understand people BEFORE trying to help them. It does not matter what I or you think about something, e.g. papers and texts, it is their belief which cause reactions/confusion and waste of resources.
All the problems is caused by the lack of understanding their culture and acting based on the western culture and criteria in the countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, Palestine, etc.
In fact, that's why US failed to succeed in many countries and wasted all its resources.

It is often not cultural differences but often the disrespect of the validity of another which is the problem.
That is elitism or arrogance which provokes problems.

Fred,
Absolutely agree with your statement. I think we are talking about the same thing, mis-interpretation of cultures and lack of respect cause retaliation and arrogance resulting in the problems we are facing in those countries.
We should keep distance from internal affairs as much as possible and just help democracy to develop smoothly rather than forcing it. Their democracy cannot be exactly the same as ours, at least in short term.

Looking at "OUR DEMOCRACY" I don't think that it is at the pinacle of the world, or at least hope it isn't.
Culture, umhh, I think I see many a culture which is more appealing than ours at the present time.
Driven by greed and unsustainable goals at the expense of each others.
Encouragement to the public to go out and spend on what is often unnecessary, unrewarding and plunge many into larger and larger debt, but driving the market up.
Actually, driving more and more "profit" into the hands of those who have more than adequate already and have no real use for the "fresh" money and little thought of altruism in the functioning.
Be careful what you wish on others.
I am going out.

MN,
Media is also responsible. They sometimes misrepresent or misinterpret the facts. IN order to sell their story, they ignore almost everything. No ned to mention about telephone hacking and other wrong stories published which in some cases even BBC mentioned them in the news......
Such information is then used for decision making by our governments. Our intelligence services should probably get "the facts" only and interpret them independently, by honest and unbiased people. Otherwise they do more harm than good.

MN,
Yes, difficult, but possible to find.
Thanker, Yes - you are right. People are ashamed or proud ONLY based on their history. Obama broke the barrier for black. I think having unbiased media like BBC can help reduce the differences.

But TV and radio are more important.

Put him out.
Tanker,
How many of the overseas news services do you observe and how many languages do you speak???
---------
Ahoj,
I am the most unbiased person I know.
I would be a perfect agent for filtering the news information and disseminating it to lesser mortals.
You know those S. Bs who vote for any party, or has policies I disagree with.
Mind I would need a fee, which would not be disclosed, and also positions on the board for family members.
========================
Just as matter of information, how many members of the cabinet deposited funds and cash in overseas accounts and companies before the last elections?
Cayman Isles.
Has Aschroft paid his taxes?
How many transferred shares and "jobs" to their partners since, or within a two year period before the last election?
Is it tax avoidance or evasion as Osborne seems to suggest?
Is it reprehensible, with the new found tory morality?
I know some think it stinks.
======
Another interest to me, is why Cameron in such a hurry to get Salmond to have the referendum on Scottish devolution.
If he is so certain about his position it shouldn't matter when it is held.
Perhaps, he doesn't want to be PM who broke up the UK.
Strange, when you consider how fragmenting his policies and PR are to society.
Mind he has got time for another 20 or 30 policies.
Perhaps, he will learn to think before he leaps of the cliff.
