It's a matter of context, rf. Bb and I stalk each other, but haven't yet reached any level of intimacy! So, happy to be laughing for now.

Balerboy - 11 Mar 2011 22:36 - 1575 of 3666

You can get locked up for that harry.......I can keep your secret but not sure about RF.,.

Chris Carson - 12 Mar 2011 13:07 - 1576 of 3666

For all those who somehow imagine the Naked Trader has mystical powers in influencing the share price of anything, will no doubt be delighted that he hasn't yet bailed on this minor pull back. Perhaps he is influenced by the futility of doing so having 'got back in' on 01st Feb with a spread bet for 30 a point @ 150.50 Tgt 180.0 stop 135.0. LOL (rf - LOL in this context Laughing Out Loud)

HARRYCAT - 22 Mar 2011 08:56 - 1577 of 3666

Strange that this hasn't recovered to the 160p level yet with the price of crude so high. I would have thought that the sp would have shot back to the previous high.

cynic - 22 Mar 2011 09:01 - 1578 of 3666

this one has never been a rocket

kuzemko - 22 Mar 2011 12:06 - 1579 of 3666

HARRYCAT - 24 Mar 2011 07:37 - 1581 of 3666

24 March 2011 - Afren plc announces the acquisition of a 74 per cent. operated working interest in the Tanga Block, located onshore and offshore Tanzania, from Petrodel Resources Limited ("Petrodel").

Highlights
u Tanga Block lies south of and is contiguous with Afren's operated blocks L17/L18 in Kenya -southerly extension of the same coastal high and basin trough plays

u New country entry into Tanzania. Represents a complementary extension of Afren's existing East African platform

u Opportunity to leverage regional expertise and knowledge

u Large scale potential with significant prospects and leads identified

u Oil shows from previous wells and oil seeps on nearby Pemba Island attest to a working hydrocarbon system being present (oil prone)

u Forward work programme that includes 900km of shallow and deep water seismic and the potential to drill one exploration well in Q4 2011 is underway.

blanche - 24 Mar 2011 08:17 - 1582 of 3666

Very nice bit of unexpected news. 8-) Onwards and Upwards.

cynic - 24 Mar 2011 08:21 - 1583 of 3666

sp has stalled several times at 160/165 and i think a decisive break through that level is needed before any meaningful advance

Chris Carson - 24 Mar 2011 08:24 - 1584 of 3666

I agree cynic, back above 50DMA at last. Moved stop to 149.3 to lock in gains.

blanche - 24 Mar 2011 08:34 - 1585 of 3666

good results at the end of the month along with more good news could see this push to new highs. imvho

cynic - 24 Mar 2011 08:44 - 1586 of 3666

CC - that may be 25 dma, though hard to tell as 50 dma is only fractionally below at 155

niceonecyril - 24 Mar 2011 09:23 - 1587 of 3666

This news could be well timed, with 2010 results out next week(29th),so an E-Bok update proir to the results and we could be tesing 180/200p?

It would be very nice.,.

blanche - 26 Mar 2011 12:19 - 1590 of 3666

Results this week coming with hopefully news of oil gushing from ebok, should see us to new highs next week. Maybe even 2.00. imvho

cynic - 27 Mar 2011 20:31 - 1591 of 3666

a very nice and positive puff on the back page of ST's business section

Toya - 27 Mar 2011 20:41 - 1592 of 3666

Yes, I read that and wondered whether it might be time to look at this again: "... Afren is expected to deliver upbeat results this week. Analysts at Royal Bank of Scotland are quoting a price target of 250p, 50% higher than Afren closing price on Friday."

niceonecyril - 27 Mar 2011 20:47 - 1593 of 3666

Sunday Times article.

Afren
Africa is rich in resources but digging them up can be fraught with difficulty. Last year, seven employees of Afren, one of the emerging forces in oil production on the continent, were kidnapped from an offshore rig in Nigeria.

There has been much less risk for the shareholders who have followed the companys ascent from AIM to the higher reaches of the FTSE 250.

The company scoops up assets cast aside by oil giants such as Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil. Production from its Ebok field in Nigeria is expected to begin by June, generating a lot of cash for Osman Shahenshah, the chief executive, to reinvest in more acquisitions.

It has just announced a move into Tanzania. Exploration in east Africa has been limited so there is a real opportunity there.

The company will demonstrate alongside its results this week that it is pressing ahead in other areas, farming out part of its Ghana field and recruiting a seasoned exploration director.

Royal Bank of Scotland began coverage this month with a 250p price target, more than 50% higher than Afrens closing price on Friday.
