THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Germans are doing great. Why UK cannot do it.
Germans work 8:00 to 5:00, here 9:00 to 5:30, not much different, but they are more efficient than us.

A big difference is Germany put themselves first with the EU second as do the French, whereas we put the EU first and ourselves second!
I have rarely if ever heard anyone refer to Germany or France as a soft touch, whereas I have heard the UK referred to being a soft touch many times.
I bet most foreign countries and their populations look at the UK and think, quite correctly that we are a laughing stock when it comes to dealing with, Immigration, Crime and Human rights issues.
I won't give examples, as they wind me up so much, but we all know of many.
Its about time this country of ours put itself first and started telling other countries, organisations that are often anti British, as diplomatically as possible of course, 'Up yours'.

What surprised me as a child was that many who advocated working harder for the masses, seemed less prepared to indulge in it themselves.

It doesn't seem to have change very much.

------------------

Another point, is the continuous drive to increase production of less than useful "objects" as a method of driving a society forward seems to me "doomed" ultimately to failure.

Often, the real driving force of this concept, ,is the production of the unnecessary objects, of little value (junk), by the "masses", for the profit of the few.

It seems crazy to me

I am not a Luddite, and admire the industrial revolution, the electronic age, the scientific age and much of the spill offs.

But, I don't value in itself, what is often considered "work" for others.

Although, it is often necessary to keep society functioning.

Suggest a download Bertram Russell's In Praise of Idleness written in the1930's . It is still pertinent.

I will try to get Whyte's book.

------------------------------

Regarding France and Germany.

I think the unity of Europe is important to both countries and with this goes the acceptance of differences in cultures.

Merkel and Sarkosy sees Germany's and Frances future in an politically united Europe. Both for slightly different reasons.

They also see their own advancement as dependant on the unity of Europe as a whole and while considering their own needs in negotiation also make those judgements on the strength of "Europe" as a whole.

Britain, or the little englanders are insular and to many Europeans are self interested, if necessary at the expense of others.

I am not sure of the support for the Eurozone in Wales, Scotland and Ireland, but would expect it to be higher than in England.

One reason, some in Scotland may wish to escape from England's dominance.

----------------------------
Germany's economy has the advantages of the reorganisation and work force and working relations and management after WW2.

There is less "class" conflict in relationships.

The "work forces" are more involvedin the decision making in development of large business or industrial projects.

I.e, greater harmony than the "divide an rule" approaches often seen in Britain.
