sp has stalled several times at 160/165 and i think a decisive break through that level is needed before any meaningful advance

I agree cynic, back above 50DMA at last. Moved stop to 149.3 to lock in gains.

CC - that may be 25 dma, though hard to tell as 50 dma is only fractionally below at 155

Yes, I read that and wondered whether it might be time to look at this again: "... Afren is expected to deliver upbeat results this week. Analysts at Royal Bank of Scotland are quoting a price target of 250p, 50% higher than Afren closing price on Friday."

Sunday Times article.
Afren
Africa is rich in resources but digging them up can be fraught with difficulty. Last year, seven employees of Afren, one of the emerging forces in oil production on the continent, were kidnapped from an offshore rig in Nigeria.
There has been much less risk for the shareholders who have followed the companys ascent from AIM to the higher reaches of the FTSE 250.
The company scoops up assets cast aside by oil giants such as Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil. Production from its Ebok field in Nigeria is expected to begin by June, generating a lot of cash for Osman Shahenshah, the chief executive, to reinvest in more acquisitions.
It has just announced a move into Tanzania. Exploration in east Africa has been limited so there is a real opportunity there.
The company will demonstrate alongside its results this week that it is pressing ahead in other areas, farming out part of its Ghana field and recruiting a seasoned exploration director.
Royal Bank of Scotland began coverage this month with a 250p price target, more than 50% higher than Afrens closing price on Friday.
