How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 10:00 - 1597 of 10502

That was curious, FSTE Intraday 9-10am. Just messing around in there and saw FTSE UP as low as 1.10 but never far from parity so laid a chunk.

the 14.10 at hereford, there is odds on offer of 1010!!! thought 1000 was the max - how is this done

Harlosh - 07 Mar 2005 14:37 - 1599 of 10502

Some strange activity on the races today.

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 14:44 - 1600 of 10502

1010 = Foreign currency fiddle I think.

Was some very weird movement on an earlier race. I've been doing OK apart from the first race.

Fundamentalist - 07 Mar 2005 14:57 - 1601 of 10502

Im having a shocker - only getting out of jail with horses getting beat - ive gone into 4 out 5 races with potential losses and thankfully only had one loser - im having a break for half hour!

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 15:00 - 1602 of 10502

Site just hung there any how. So I've skipped the next race.

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 15:12 - 1603 of 10502

"Im having a shocker"

It wouldn't appear to be an easy day. Six of this and half a dozen of the other.

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 15:43 - 1604 of 10502

I can join the list of sorrow!

15:20 I was stopped out at 5.70, Not an issue but the market price was errr 3.70 and of course the raging favourite did not win but the horse with the loss on it did!!

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 15:45 - 1605 of 10502

Four joint favourites at the 15:50!!

Fundamentalist - 07 Mar 2005 16:19 - 1606 of 10502

Come back and continued my shocker - just got out of jail with a faller in the last

Harlosh - 07 Mar 2005 16:34 - 1607 of 10502

Had a good day believe it or not. There was helluva lot of volatility in the prices so had to wait until they settled down before getting in. Someone was playing games.

Fundamentalist - 07 Mar 2005 16:42 - 1608 of 10502

"Someone was playing games" - yep and they played em better than me lol

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 17:11 - 1609 of 10502

Well done Harlosh.

Massive drifter in the 17:10, Franco from 4's to 10's

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 17:13 - 1610 of 10502

fell is a kind description - watched the race - it took off about two strides too early and was on the way down when it ploughed through the fence and bringing down another horse at the same time.

personally had my worse day ever - but theres always tomorrow

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 21:02 - 1613 of 10502

Sorry to hear you had a mare. Everybody does now and again. Here's hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 21:08 - 1614 of 10502

City and Bolton is starting to smell like a 1-1 to me.
