Pound slightly off against the dollar & euro on the back of those numbers as I assume interest rate rises are now less sure?

UK inflation falls to lowest in a year

Euro zone inflation rises less than estimated in March

It would seem that way Skinny although it's my opinion that the BOE will go ahead with the near term rises. They seem to be on a mission to get interest rates up a bit to ensure there is no shock to consumers at a later date.

I'd probably support this. 0.5% is not normal and a move to 1% in the short term seems not inappropriate, although if inflation is not rising above target one might argue no need to move at all.

It's a pleasant problem for the BOE to have which is probably the first time we can say that in 10 years.

Inflation falling and moving to target, unemployment down, employment up, real wage growth, GDP up although muted.

FTSE up 50 so it seems happy with the numbers.

In the US last night, the Dow finished down 38.56 at 24,748.07 the Nasdaq up 14.14 at 7,295.24 and the S&P 500 up 2.25 at 2,708.64.

In Asia, the Nikkei was recently up 60.51 points at 22,206.63 - the Hang Seng up 396.76 at 30,681.01 - crude oil traded at $68.47 a barrel and Brent at $73.48.

Gold settled at $1,351.20 an ounce.

In Asia, the Nikkei was recently down 30.66 points at 22,162.12 - the Hang Seng down 128.90 at 30,579.54 - crude oil traded at $68.29 a barrel and Brent at $73.78.

Gold settled at $1,346.80 an ounce.
