Chart breakout / reversal thread (CHAR)

Andy - 29 May 2003 00:39

Please post any charts here that look as though they may be in or about to breakout, or reverse their previous trend.

If possible, please paste the chart into the thread.

Andy - 17 Jun 2003 19:56 - 16 of 34

William Hill.

PAtrck,

Yes volume and interest seems to have increased in PDX.

Tomorrow could be intersting!

pwmiles - 18 Jun 2003 18:22 - 18 of 34

Hi Andy. It turned out to be a quiet day for PDX. Some of the "hot money" seems a little flighty.

HIF (mentioned above) continues its run, most oddly into selling. The MMs seem to be upping the bid to prize loose quite small holdings.

Little to report with JKX.

Avocet Mining AVM has had two strong days, a true breakout I think. Currently quoted 34-36 (I wish these charts didn't lag a day). It's very good that it has done it with a rising 150dma.

draw?period=1Y&action=draw&startDate=18%

Andy - 18 Jun 2003 22:40 - 19 of 34

patrick,

I hold AVM too!

Am considering a top up, results are due end of July, and small cap mining stocks seem to be back in fashion again.

skyship - 24 Jun 2003 15:08 - 20 of 34

One of the more interesting charts at the moment. If it breaks down through 125p....next stop 80p IMO. If you are a happy bull, watch v. closely.

little woman - 30 Jun 2003 18:03 - 21 of 34

Never really understood the charts until now! (Altough not 100% sure that what I think they are showing is what I think they show!!!)

Please keep posting - Its great these "eureka" moments!!!!

pwmiles - 04 Jul 2003 07:53 - 22 of 34

Here is a recent enthusiasm of mine, an investment trust called JP Morgan Fleming Russian (JFR)

draw?period=1Y&action=draw&startDate=04%

It's a sort of "if you cant beat them, join them" stock... moves with the Russian RTS index which is having a terrific run.

RTS and JFR are both dominated by oil shares e.g. Lukoil, Yukos. JP Morgan itself owns 22% of JFR, and JFR has been periodically buying its own stock for cancellation... which supports the price of course. Discount 12-13%

Sorry if I sound cynical but I feel there is more or less open manipulation here, which is characteristic of the Russian investment scene in general. Anyway I think the trend has a way to go, but view it as short term speculative.

PS not a breakout or reversal as per header, just a trend... I hope!

Gausie - 13 Jul 2003 15:10 - 23 of 34

Two breakouts to throw into the mixing pot.

Isoft (IOT)

draw?period=1Y&action=draw&startDate=04%

and Pursuit (PDX)

draw?period=1Y&action=draw&startDate=04%

Andy - 13 Jul 2003 16:52 - 24 of 34

GHT, Gresham computing is having a good run!

All to do with their real time nostro software for banks, due to commence in October.

draw?period=1Y&action=draw&startDate=13%

pwmiles - 13 Jul 2003 18:27 - 25 of 34

Wow Andy GHT's another like DGO, breakout, rising flag, then up again. Isn't the flag supposed to be "halfway up the mast"? This would give a target of about [edit] 500 for GHT (and in truth 22p for DGO which it has already passed).

There was a lot of chitchat about this phenomenon last year, e.g. with CER and AVM, but I haven't actually seen it happen till now.

Andy - 13 Jul 2003 18:59 - 26 of 34

PATRICK,

I seem to remember a remark like that.

I hold GHT, but am seriously thinking of going long (spreadbetting), momentum seems to be building and there are rumours of a further bank signing up.

pwmiles - 13 Jul 2003 19:11 - 27 of 34

Hmm this may illustrate the dangers of euphoria even in a bull market

Trading off the 150dma could give one opportunity a year, in fact that is the way I am intending to play both PYM and GWP

draw?period=5Y&action=draw&startDate=13%

...it would have worked reasonably well with GHT [in the 98-00 bull market] ... as long as you had the discipline to sell when it was too far below the 150dma

draw?period=SpecifyRange&action=draw&sta

pwmiles - 18 Jul 2003 16:54 - 28 of 34

Current situation mentioned above & I think reinforced by recent developments

PDX -- breakout

And another I am backing

FLT -- reversal

Also, watch HEV -- spot of interest today. Watch HPD too

Remember you do not have to buy at the bottom. DYOR, get up to speed on the story and then decide!

PS: "All Messages" already shows some quite useful history on this thread, what worked & what didn't etc.

PPS: JFR JP Morgan Fleming Russian (mentioned above) is testing its 50 dma, because of a terrific imbroglio and fallout on the Russian stockmarket or RTS, to do with a tax investigation of the Yukos oil company chaired by former Siberian bad-boy Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Russia's richest man. Let's see if the 50dma holds. If it does it is a great confirmation.

Caracole - 22 Jul 2003 16:03 - 29 of 34

Thus looks like a long term play out of a breakout situation and in the short term a flag has just formed. The next few days will be critical. The OBV confirms price.........worth watching
draw?period=2Y&action=draw&startDate=22%

latestarter - 22 Jul 2003 17:49 - 30 of 34

SCPA well worth a look together with BBR both long term plays

latestarter - 24 Jul 2003 20:09 - 31 of 34

BBR looks a whole lot healthier after today up another 11%

Homer - 03 Aug 2003 17:58 - 32 of 34

hey all,

dominos pizza bump and run complete now. posted when dom was creating the lead in line, and shot up way past bump bump bump!! should fall back now to test long term support at 103p.

skyship - 06 Aug 2003 15:22 - 33 of 34

Since Apr'03 when it broke the perfect 2002/3 downtrend, McAlpine has created a regular uptrend pointing toward 310p in the near term and 370p in c. 6 months. This is very much a core portfolio stock rather than a trade; but from today's Offer @ 285p a rise to that 370p target does represent a 30% rise....

draw?period=2Y&action=draw&startDate=22%

skyship - 06 Aug 2003 15:36 - 34 of 34

....and another one benefiting from increased public expenditure in the UK's infrastructure is "Aggregates" minnow - Ennstone. Takeover talk is a constant feature of this stock; and may well happen one day; but this is a stock to add to your Monitor for a break of that 40p resistance. If/when it does (and the price is getting progressively squeezed into the triangle apex) then ENN looks set to fly straight to 50p. A bid would require something nearer 60p I would imagine.

draw?period=5Y&action=draw&startDate=06%
