FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

The DOW looks like it's testing 16700+ support at the moment. I'll look to buy at around 16723 ish if it gives up a further 50pts, a break below the cloud and lower trend line however indicates a change in direction and a move lower.

Noting the uptrend in gold, the EBOLA outbreak and tensions around the world no doubt will act to strengthen the USD and as such should support safe havens like gold to some degree. A considered buy I think

I'm making a bit of a pig in a poke of it this afternoon - a few scalps after closing overnight short earlier - currently short from 6,757.

Must admit I'm making more use of trailing stops these days and it seems to be paying off so far (famous last words I know) You're the right side now Skinny. looks like the only way is down at the moment.

Glad I got this thread going again, I like to read the trading that goes on, reminds me of my earlier days. Keep the good work up.

Rocky - 31 Jul 2014 20:10 - 16101 of 21973

Is this the beginning of a sustained downturn?
Bought some shares in BQE a few weeks ago in case the EBOLA threat is eventually taken seriously. Can't see what's driving things down otherwise, unless the thought that the bubble of cheap money will soon pop. I would be tempted to sell into the rally rather than catch the bottom at the moment.

skinny - 31 Jul 2014 20:20 - 16102 of 21973

6,700 and 15,600 both look vulnerable.

Rocky - 31 Jul 2014 21:46 - 16103 of 21973
