ASOS: BUY AT LOW PRICE!!!! (ASC)

wilco99 - 12 Sep 2003 15:52

ASOS have dropped quite significantly in the past week for no particular reason and I view this as the perfect opportunity to invest as I can see them bouncing right back up to the 5.50p mark in the next 2-3 weeks. STRONG BUY!!

eric - assume you mean H1 (new year) results to be promulgated (for which there is no other word in the dog world - although perspicatious correctly spelt is descriptive of a sweating tabby, of course, grrr, grrr!).

I interpret the recent drift back as a downward pointing flag - a formation suggesting continuation of the upward trend since July's bottom. Note the repetitive sharp rise, reverse flag, sharp rise, reverse flag - looking forward to the next sharp rise or two as we head towards the 17th October.

Quite tempted to go to Hemel to absorb the vibes.

sd What a perspicatious hound; sweaty from chasing the tabbies!

Think you're right re the flags; there was a shortened form around 68p last year on the steeper rise. Interesting how little interest there is in ASOS compared to a year ago. My prediction is that it will rise with the interims as the growth rate is confirmed and, as you suggest, the rise should start as the AGM approaches. The present sp doesn't reflect the Q1 growth rate if that is repeated in Q2 and if expectations are good for the Xmas season. However, just as significant, is the imrpovement in margins that will be seen from the new warehouse, remembering too that we are comparing a period in which margins were reduced due to warehouse problems last Xmas season. Well over 1 this time!

eric my feeling is that this bodes well that not only on this board but others as well there has been a decline in post which should be good for the sp if results come out better then expected not to many traders appear to be in this share at the moment.

From the Mail On Sunday

Television shopping is bucking the gloomy trend overshadowing the High Street with sales rocketing at more than 20% a year. Fuelled by the boom of Freeview TV, the top three operators are revelling in double-digit growth. Outside the buoyant trio of QVC, Sit-Up TV and Ideal Shopping Direct, retail experts are predicting a huge shakeout among smaller players. The market has sales of 900m a year, compared with about 1.5bn for internet shopping, and sales are expected to double by 2009.

Doesn't ASC have plans for TV shopping outlets?

The sharp downward movement in the SP last week is disappointing as we make the approach to the AGM on the 17th October. In spite of a headline saying small caps had been reaching new peaks recently, my experience is that a number of them are suffering a bit of portfolio sorting prior to the traditionally boyant last 3 months of the year.

I hope the new warehouse manages to impress!

Hi sd, old pal! Still chewing on this old bone,eh? Well, I think you will be in for your reward very shortly. So a few million shares were sold last week but those seem to have been against the trend and could be for a variety of personal readings. Agree that this is not currently a trader's share but could become one again. Its amusing to think that that will not ahppen on excellent trading but rather on a sharp price rise. Doesn't say much for the trading community. Lets check it out: I am saying that the trading statment will point to eps well ahead of currentt forecasts, that there will be positive press comment, some investment and a reasonable mark up in sp, but that the traders will not return. Later, following loads of press comment, enthusiasm about Xmas trading, perhaps into the New Year when traders are speculating on the shares for next year, ASOS will come under the spotlight again. Interesting to compare your own dog-matism, dogology or what do dogs call it?

Nice to hear words of wisdom from you again Eric...................The other dog

EWRobson - 07 Oct 2005 06:41 - 1619 of 5941

SD: what's better than one dog - two. Honey and Tess left at home: call them 'big' (Lab) and 'little' (westie). They live in present moment and enjoy life - trying to do that. When someone asks me the time, I say 'now'. When someone asks where we are, I say 'here'. Think I'll change my mnemonic to WOD (wise old dog).

But still Eric

ASC mentioned again in Shares Editor's column re the increasing trend of online shopping and the biggest beneficiary being ASC. Every little helps as they say!

Q2 statement next Monday so sp should remain strong as news should be good.

stockdog - 11 Oct 2005 18:10 - 1623 of 5941

And AGM held at new warehouse in Hertfordshire(?) or somewhere close. Would like to go, but something's cropped up I can't get out of in town. Anyone else going?

Are you still holding, Eric? Taken a bit of a tumble at the end of September, but perked up over the last week, esepcially today. Who knows - not me for sure. I guess it will be the old sell on fact after the AGM unless they knock our socks off with unexpectedly good figures. Will it ever reach 1??

sd

EWRobson - 11 Oct 2005 19:07 - 1624 of 5941

sd - my old friend! Still in but relatively small volume. Sum invested well down, what with withdrawal of funds (including this lovely house I am sitting in in Phuket) and the drop in SEO - fortunately out before the major carnage. Have just pointed out over there the parallel with fall out with ASOS which was overdone. I now see ASC as still undervalued on the basis of volume growth and probably improved margins in the same order as last year. There is no hype left in the sp which is a good thing but I can see good results being met with a deafening silence. Feel confident enough about Monday to go long if I had the funds available to do so! By the way the meeting is at the new warehouse so I hope there will be someone there to report back.

ASC (last year) and DGT and SEO this year all have a very similar shape to them - very exciting
rise ont he thermals of hot sentiment followed by inexplicable fall back to modest levels.

Let's hope SEO and DGT follow ASC's example for the next phase.

Rather be in Phuket than SEO this week!

Hi guys.

Not trying to wind anyone up but only just read the posts since my last comment in July and still think these are a pile of sh*te and a disaster waiting to happen.

I have not been in the market for a while so cannot comment on chart as I haven't looked recently but will look tomorrow , opinion has always in this case been based on fundamentals and if you check back I called them crap on the way up but said I would never try and fight the trend.

Good luck (cept queeny , lol).

Dil - 11 Oct 2005 23:49 - 1627 of 5941

And not sure who asked for justification for July comment but if they cared to check the thread then I gave it when I first posted here in what I thought Iwas a very amicable debate with EW and a few other genuine investors.

Regards

Dil - 11 Oct 2005 23:51 - 1628 of 5941

Should have guessed ... it was queeny

"queen1 - 17 Jul 2005 13:14 - 1566 of 1627
Oh that's all we need - Dil and his blatant de-ramping. Please, other long-term holders of ASC and contributors to this thread, don't listen to the man. He has an agenda and will slag off the share without backing up his comments, just as above."

EWRobson - 13 Oct 2005 17:39 - 1629 of 5941

dil Good to hear from yo0u but surprised at the negative comment. My views, expressed recently is that the share is good value now on fundamentals and should be a definite buy after Monday's AGM with trading statment. I expect analyst forecasts to be upgraded as they do not reflect the improved margins from new warehouse, etc. and the year on year trading improvements exhibited on the hitwise charts. You seem to have a different hymn sheet; but then, being Welsh, you are probably still singing from Cwm Rondhha! Perhaps sd can give us a rendition, with appropriate yowling conclusion!

Eric

stockdog - 13 Oct 2005 20:15 - 1630 of 5941

I can only be induced to sing Cum Dividend, sorry to disappoint!

Dil - 13 Oct 2005 23:36 - 1631 of 5941

I do have one slight reservation with my analysis EW but not enough to make me change my opinion ... yet.

Good luck.
