MEDICAL MARKETING, A Speculative Punt That Might Reap Rich Rewards (MMG)

goldfinger - 01 Sep 2004 15:33

This ones a heck of a specualive investment but it seems that the institutions are willing to stomp up the cash to back it in the long term.

Heres the latest news from Killik stocbrokers on the company..........

MEDICAL MARKETING Joint Venture

We recently highlighted Medical Marketing (MMG) as worthy of attention. The company, in which I have a personal share holding, has this morning announced the formation of a joint venture, Genvax, to develop a novel DNA vaccine platform technology.

Human trials have been underway since 2001 in areas such as Lymphoma and Myeloma but the technology has broad applications in cancer, viral and bacterial infections (hence the term platform). The technology works on boosting the immune system by teaching it to identify hard to recognise cancer proteins as foreign and destroy them. Early results from the 25 patient trial in lymphoma are encouraging and evaluation of the result is expected by March 2005. Successful results should mean big pharmaceutical groups will start to take financial and commercial interests around that time.

This looks to be the first of a series of announcements due from Medical Marketing as it has a range of predominantly cancer trials moving into the clinical stage. (news flow could push the price higher)

The stock has made good progress in recent sessions up to the mid-80p level where the company is valued at just under 40 million. ENDS.

Please DYOR

cheers GF.

I don't think he'll buy anymore as he holds 12.5 mil of them. No news and down it will go on a day by day basis. But if we get news then this position could well reverse very quickly.

I agree mickey any news and we could add 50p in one day but with no news it will fall to 100p ish...all small caps are suffering at the moment but MMI has fallen more than most.

swseun - 18 May 2005 18:00 - 1615 of 2444

is there anyone here bought above 250p and still holding? Here is one... :_(

mickeyskint - 18 May 2005 18:32 - 1616 of 2444

From the other place. Please read it and take hope he's bang on.

All this unrelieved gloom following the unrelieved euphoria on the way up to 3 is rather ridiculous. Absolutely nothing has changed in the intervening period. The company came out with some good news regarding the apparent positive effect of a drug in phase l/ll trials. People got too excited on the way up and, because a city shorter picks the company for his latest hit, terminal gloom descends on the way down. Simon Cawkwell picked a perfect share for shorting. Good news causing an over-extended price and the knowledge that there will be a sizeable gap before the next news - perfect. What is ridiculous is the talk that the company is now almost worthless. The trial results were very positive and it is reasonable to expect the share price to contain an element of hope. The exact size of the hope element at this stage will vary with sentiment but that does not mean the company suddenly has no future. Simon will stay in for as long as he senses scared punters. Once they have all gone or find confidence and the selling dries up, the price will stabilise. This could be at any price, depending on how agressive SC is and how scared the punters are. In due course the company will come out with further results and, if positive, the price will rise again and all this will be a memory. A pleasant one for SC and an unpleasant one for all the punters scared out of their shares at a loss.

Hello swseun good to know your still about , this is one hell of a rollercoaster ride and i for one have never liked rollercoasters.
I have tried to keep away from portfollio lately as it is having a bad effect on my blood pressure.
Still if you thought this was bad thank your lucky stars your not in Regal Petroleum ,another stock making evil a packet.
All good things come to those that wait.

swseun - 18 May 2005 21:47 - 1619 of 2444

hi DB66, nice to see you around. I did the same as well, keep away from my portfolio, but only for a week. Once I saw it again this morning, I nearly jump up in office. I think everyone could see my disappointed face haha....
yeah, I was a bit angey as well with this shares, but it is stock market, isn't it? you would never win. Howver, buying share to me is investment, now seems like gamble.... well now I understand...
Anyway, no matter how low the share it go even to 4p, I will just hold it, to me now, 20,000 pounds is no difference to 2 pounds. And they would never get my share... only if it closes the company.

andysmith - 18 May 2005 22:28 - 1620 of 2444

swseun, you're right it is a gamble but you can win. I did all right out of MMG becuase as you know I took good profit at 270p from 71p and I guess I'll get the chance to do it again but I too made mistakes early on and at times felt like jacking it in, you'll never get it all right but when you do get the winners its a great feeling. Luckily for me I built up an overweight position in SEO at 4-6p last year so I don't have to worry too much right now as my original investment into the stock-market has more than doubled and I am a novice of 15months at this!!

hampi_man - 19 May 2005 08:50 - 1621 of 2444

Andy, like swseun I too am a novice, been at this game for only 6 months and have won on a few and lost on more than a few. I'm learning all the time and feel I am making better decisions at present. Its very comforting to hear some positive comments and encouragement from yourself and others, I salute you and thank you very much. Now if this SP would only retrace to where it rightfully belongs............up to the 3 mark LOL BTW, I have been in and out of this and made a few quid but am in again at 236 and missed the pull back.....Ah well!

mickeyskint - 19 May 2005 10:53 - 1622 of 2444

From the other place. Keep the faith it will happen.

The Relative Strength Index which you can find on Benny's chart above shows that we have got down to a RSI of 10. This is ludicrously low and indicates that the share is massively oversold. I would never sell with a RSI so low. 9 times in 10 the share price will recover from such a low rating.

Getting back to fundamentals, MMI have at least two potential blockbusters, ruthenium compounds for cancer and a prostate cancer vaccine. There is a very good possibility imo that both of these will be licenced by big pharma and when they do these shares will be at least 10 times the price they are now. And as boss David Best says a deal is quite likely to happen before clinical trials are complete, in which case milestone payments would be paid to MMI when various targets are reached. So news of a deal could come at anytime.

To be honest, I still thought that these were a buy at 250p and with hindsight, I obviously should have sold out at 3 and bought back at 1. I did trade some on the way down but bought back too early.

But I have to say that for anyone looking for a 10 bagger investment, there cannot be a better prospect from here than MMI. I still have my core holding which is still well in profit and I have just gone long with Finspreads at 112.5p until September. Now that looks like a good deal to me. With the Dow and the FTSE back into upward channels, I will be surprised if they are not well above 112.5 by Sept. Others seem to disagree but going short in a rising market on a share with a RSI of 10 seems rather foolish to me. We will see.

good post MS

swseun - 19 May 2005 18:55 - 1624 of 2444

mickey, thanks for the positive post. If MMG back to 2 before sept, and back to 3 or above for any result after sept. Well, we will see.
hampi_man, even I am in stock for 3 year, but to most of investor here, I am still a novice. I have lost 2/3 in this and am looking for a "cheaper" way to learn. :_(
andy, mickey, when is the next result out? or any result? many thanks.

swseun - 19 May 2005 19:01 - 1625 of 2444

btw, anyone in SEO? I have a thought to sell MMG and buy SEO, but again dn't want to gamble.

andysmith - 19 May 2005 20:47 - 1626 of 2444

swseun, I've been in SEO since last Autumn at 4-6p!! It might look a bit rich right now but with the propects it has I ain't selling and would accumulate on any dips but beware it can be affected by BUY on Rumour, SELL on news folk.
I've taken advantage of this in the past, selling a percentage at the top after reading the news and buying back again later, notably on the CGT week when SEO was also attacked by EK. Increased my stake without spending a penny!!
This weeks rise is based upon rumour of a massive deal in US due to be announced on Monday. What happens next depends on IF there is an announcement AND the content. If as good as predicted a definite BUY, if just an update it will fall back temporarily and present a better buying opportunity. Too difficult to call apart from I think at least 50p by end of 2005 IMO. It has more than one excellent packaging concept that could make a huge impact in the world of packaging which is where I earn my crust. IMO it is the best stock with real earnings growth potential on the market today.
Back to MMG, its still on my watchlist ready for the step back-in becuase it too has the massive potential but will remain non-profitable for a while yet with likely fund-raising exercises unless a deal can be concluded with a big pharma. If it drops below 100p again I'm automatically in.

andysmith - 20 May 2005 20:19 - 1627 of 2444

swseun, I can't answer your question on this bb. You need to click on your own name and change your user settings so that I can send you a message.
Let me know when its done and I will respond.
On MMG, where has everyone gone???

swseun - 21 May 2005 00:39 - 1628 of 2444

andy, coz June is coming, most went holiday I believe...
MMG - 100p may come very soon again.

seawallwalker - 21 May 2005 08:12 - 1629 of 2444

I have to feel relieved that I dumped this one at the highs against opinion of what I was reading here and there.

I was looking for a re entry but I have changed my mind, I could not live with the stress.

I will leave the next upsurge to the braver folk.

Good luck

mickeyskint - 21 May 2005 10:26 - 1630 of 2444

Only buy on news and don't get sucked in again.

MS

mitzy - 21 May 2005 11:10 - 1631 of 2444

Congrats for selling when you did SW its never wrong to sell at a profit and leave some for the next man.
This is one all or nothing type of stock as we have witnessed in the last 5 months and until we get some idea of when the next news is due its best to sit on the sideline.

seawallwalker - 21 May 2005 11:38 - 1632 of 2444

You are nice people.
