FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Short DOW @ 16451

Seymour Clearly - 08 Aug 2014 17:49 - 16209 of 21973

+67 overall today. Might do some more this evening, see how I feel.

cynic - 08 Aug 2014 17:55 - 16210 of 21973

i've got a smallish long running from 16438 but will prob get out at ~16490 if i get the chance

skinny - 08 Aug 2014 18:32 - 16211 of 21973

Just closed and reversed a FTSE long @6,594.3.

cynic - 08 Aug 2014 20:56 - 16212 of 21973

phew! what a couple of days .... horrible yesterday and a struggle this morning, but dow long just hit limit at 16545, which i never expected

shall now contemplate a very modest short, but that just may be a shot too brave with the great unknown of w/e due within a few minutes

===============

did so at 16550.8 but have actually put in a stop at 15575 just in case everything goes ballistic, which is not my usual style

cynic - 10 Aug 2014 23:25 - 16213 of 21973

just been stopped out ... never mind, for it was just a very small postion

Rocky - 11 Aug 2014 12:35 - 16214 of 21973

Same here, for a somewhat largish position - think I'll go back to juggling chainsaws!

cynic - 13 Aug 2014 18:37 - 16215 of 21973

I've managed to make a few shillings over the last week by ensuring I book respectable profits while they're on offer

for all, dow is acting somewhat contrarily, and continues to power ahead even though the Fear/Greed Index remains stuck below 10 (extreme fear)
the dow itself is now getting very close to a major hurdle which lurks, if I remember correctly, at 16720
no doubt skinny or shortie will correct me if that is inaccurate

Balerboy - 13 Aug 2014 18:42 - 16216 of 21973

you off soon cyners? sampling some french tart.,.

cynic - 13 Aug 2014 18:45 - 16217 of 21973

Shortie - 14 Aug 2014 10:21 - 16218 of 21973

skinny - 14 Aug 2014 10:35 - 16219 of 21973

I closed an overnight FTSE short earlier and have closed a FTSE & DAX long - all in profit.

Nothing much now until this afternoon - all a bit zzzzzzzz atm.

Shortie - 14 Aug 2014 10:57 - 16220 of 21973

Action is all in Sterling

cynic - 14 Aug 2014 15:21 - 16221 of 21973

16220 - i was talking bollocks as usual .... don't know where i got that silly "hurdle" number from

goldfinger - 14 Aug 2014 15:45 - 16222 of 21973

No neither did I. But then again it is you.

cynic - 14 Aug 2014 16:00 - 16223 of 21973

never mind, for meanwhile i have been successfully trading in small tranches both dow and C+M Index

goldfinger - 14 Aug 2014 16:13 - 16224 of 21973

You Silly Billy.

cynic - 14 Aug 2014 16:16 - 16225 of 21973

would only be a silly billy if i did not regularly realise the profits

HARRYCAT - 16 Aug 2014 09:53 - 16226 of 21973

.

cynic - 18 Aug 2014 20:26 - 16227 of 21973

have managed to remain disciplined and taken a modest profit today on C+M Index (long) and ditto but rather more on dow
have now reversed dow at 16825.4 which i shall allow to run o'night, though with a stop in place just in case
