FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Tempted on DAX @9339.

Shortie - 19 Aug 2014 16:33 - 16231 of 21973

I got a FTSE short running @ 6758, watching the DAX for now but fancy a long position over short.

skinny - 19 Aug 2014 16:35 - 16232 of 21973

I was tempted to short it - but haven't.

Still quite a divergence.

Keep your eye on this also.

I was tempted on TSLA yesterday, but again - didn't!

Closed DAX @9252.1 + 62.6.

On edit - previous post should read "short"!!.

Well done on those profits Skinny.

I've not had time to play much recently... Busy floating my CV round the financial recruitment agencies at the moment, as its time for me to jump ship..!

skinny - 20 Aug 2014 15:06 - 16240 of 21973

Thanks Shortie - I don't miss those days, but I do sometimes miss the buzz of London.

Shortie - 20 Aug 2014 15:56 - 16241 of 21973

I'm still toying with the idea of setting up my own business.

skinny - 20 Aug 2014 16:03 - 16242 of 21973

You won't be alone! - Self-employed make up two-thirds of new jobs, ONS says

Shortie - 20 Aug 2014 16:20 - 16243 of 21973

Its consistent income that worries me.. You know where you are when your an employee..

Tip:

Learn: 'Will Writing' and 'Financial Advising'.

Shortie - 20 Aug 2014 16:33 - 16245 of 21973

Why, you can write a will on-line for peanuts and financial advising in general if far too regulated I think..

Claret Dragon - 20 Aug 2014 18:02 - 16246 of 21973

One Trade went right FTSE Short

Other DOW Short offside.

Shortie, write away then - but keep it simple. If it gets complicated, that's when you need a professional.

The average couple needing to shelter, just the maximum joint IHT allowance of £650k out of their estate, might easily get involved in paying professionals several £k in fees.

If they aren't your fees but fees your clients might be paying out to other professionals to perform financial tasks that you have suggested to them, then at least you will earn some kickbacks from the introductions.

As a target, I think you might be looking to earn £500 per day minimum. That's around £125k plus per annum.

In between doing the wills, you could also sell some solar panel installations. The order value is around £4k-£8k, the investment yield per client is more than 10% and so it is a relatively easy fairly straight forward sale to make and should will pay you around 10% commission per sale.

As a target: say 2 sales per week minimum.

You could be knocking up £1/4m per year in no time at all. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

:-)

And get yourself a early morning paper round

skinny - 20 Aug 2014 20:16 - 16249 of 21973

Short DAX again @9337.2 - should have reversed earlier!

Shortie - I spent 20+ years self employed and it was the best thing I ever did.
