FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Short DAX again @9337.2 - should have reversed earlier!

Shortie - I spent 20+ years self employed and it was the best thing I ever did.

Claret Dragon - 20 Aug 2014 20:53 - 16250 of 21973

Well thanks for the advice guys, somehow I can't see me writing wills and selling solar panels after an early morning paper round!! I'll stick to credit I think just with another company...

Skinny when you were self employed what did you do?

skinny - 21 Aug 2014 11:23 - 16254 of 21973

IT consultant - as a one man Ltd company - there are a few on these boards I believe.

Shortie - 21 Aug 2014 11:27 - 16255 of 21973

I think you might be right there...

Rocky - 21 Aug 2014 14:49 - 16256 of 21973

Small long on DOW for bounce off 17000.

Rocky - 21 Aug 2014 15:10 - 16257 of 21973

Out for +14 and reversed. Those figures look too good.

Rocky - 21 Aug 2014 15:40 - 16258 of 21973

Out flat. Think I'll just watch for now.

cynic - 21 Aug 2014 16:49 - 16259 of 21973

hmm or do i mean pooh ..... rather describes my dow short positions but i'll continue to hold as it really is hard to believe that this upward surge can really continue to run and run - which of course means it will

at least i banked another nice little profit on C+M Index today

Hello Flossiepops.

Seymour Clearly - 21 Aug 2014 20:12 - 16261 of 21973

Hello Hiltops.

That top on Cable at around 1.71 was when I was in the States. It was a cheap holiday :-)

hilary - 21 Aug 2014 20:18 - 16262 of 21973

You were in a state on a cheap holiday? Dunno what you mean.

:o)

Seymour Clearly - 21 Aug 2014 20:22 - 16263 of 21973

Seymour Clearly - 21 Aug 2014 20:23 - 16264 of 21973

Anyway, looking for a new trade as my Dow long has reached its conclusion. That should fit the bill.

jimmy b - 21 Aug 2014 20:56 - 16265 of 21973

Got out of my DOW short with a few pts loss , surely it's over cooked now .

Seymour Clearly - 21 Aug 2014 21:19 - 16266 of 21973

I don't care whether it's overcooked or not. I just follow the trend :-)

jimmy b - 21 Aug 2014 21:22 - 16267 of 21973

Seymour ,i'm a rubbish indices trader ,over the last few months i'm about evens .

Seymour Clearly - 21 Aug 2014 22:14 - 16268 of 21973

I used to be. It really doesn't matter whether it's indices, currencies or pork bellies. The technique is the same. If you're about evens then that's only one step away from profitability :-)
