FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Anyway, looking for a new trade as my Dow long has reached its conclusion. That should fit the bill.

Got out of my DOW short with a few pts loss , surely it's over cooked now .

Seymour Clearly - 21 Aug 2014 21:19 - 16266 of 21973

I don't care whether it's overcooked or not. I just follow the trend :-)

jimmy b - 21 Aug 2014 21:22 - 16267 of 21973

Seymour ,i'm a rubbish indices trader ,over the last few months i'm about evens .

Seymour Clearly - 21 Aug 2014 22:14 - 16268 of 21973

I used to be. It really doesn't matter whether it's indices, currencies or pork bellies. The technique is the same. If you're about evens then that's only one step away from profitability :-)

Yellen speech raises possibility of earlier rate rise
Janet Yellen has moved to a more neutral position on the amount of spare capacity in the US labour market in a speech that raises the possibility of earlier rate rises by the US Federal Reserve.

In a highly technical presentation at a Fed conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the Fed chair carefully avoided breaking any new ground on monetary policy. But she highlighted extreme uncertainty about how many jobs the economy can create before inflation starts to pick up.

to which the markets have so far reacted with equanimity ..... quite strange

i am very puzzled that cash Dow is currently showing +60 from friday's close

Europe shares rally on Draghi comments (NBC) comments 55 mins ago.

Draghi speaks

The German DAX and the French CAC were sharply higher on Monday morning, both up over 1 per cent, while theU.K.'s FTSe 100 is closed for a bank holiday.

Investors reacted to words by Draghi who, speaking after markets closed on Friday, expressed confidence that the stimulus already announced and a weaker euro would help the euro zone economy, but noted the ECB was ready to do more if needed.

DAX 10.15 am 9,432.26 + 93 but as we all know cyners tomorrow when it matters to us is another day :0)

cynic - 25 Aug 2014 10:35 - 16273 of 21973

but surely draghi's speech was during the time that the dow was still open on friday

from a wider perspective, i can tell you that chemical traffic and general business confidence across the whole m/e region has slumped

Chris Carson - 25 Aug 2014 11:04 - 16274 of 21973

No argument from me. It will all end in tears but in the meantime trade what you see not what you think or want to see in my humble opinion :0)

Stan - 25 Aug 2014 11:05 - 16275 of 21973

50/50?..trade what you see as usual then.

Seymour Clearly - 01 Sep 2014 11:56 - 16280 of 21973

Yes, agree. I didn't do anything with it last week, waiting to see what this week brings.

Shortie - 02 Sep 2014 10:41 - 16281 of 21973

Think we're all waiting and have our trade points.
