FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Tonight on BBC2 9pm part 1 of part 2 documentary........."Traders: Millions By The Minute".

Shortie - 16 Sep 2014 09:33 - 16308 of 21973

I wish...

cynic - 16 Sep 2014 16:55 - 16309 of 21973

the markets suddenly like something that i have not yet seen
dow suddenly +90 with ftse hanging on to its coat-tails after hours

===========

watch for 17160 with preferably a surge through that, though it may stumble at that point

cynic - 16 Sep 2014 18:42 - 16310 of 21973

dow is now toying with 17160, so wait and watch
as i can't/won't be glued to the screen all evening, i've banked 50% of my long position

cynic - 16 Sep 2014 20:09 - 16311 of 21973

closed and reversed at 17156.4
dow has had a couple of weak attempts at breaking 17160, and given its failure, i think there's some money to be made tomorrow on the other tack

cynic - 17 Sep 2014 08:09 - 16312 of 21973

and already banked a little 25 point profit ..... no point in tempting fate with "no" vote beginning to look ever more certain

small ftse long opened at 6811

HARRYCAT - 17 Sep 2014 08:36 - 16313 of 21973

Might be of interest to some. Not worth a bet imo, but seems as though the bookies are already paying out.

me!

HARRYCAT - 19 Sep 2014 07:41 - 16316 of 21973

.

cynic - 19 Sep 2014 08:28 - 16317 of 21973

the result was exactly what i expected, though the margin was greater
had a medium ftse long, which shows how certain i was, but now not certain what to do, if anything

=============

banked half, which can't be all stupid

Shortie - 22 Sep 2014 10:25 - 16318 of 21973

cynic - 22 Sep 2014 20:43 - 16319 of 21973

jimmy b - 23 Sep 2014 13:15 - 16322 of 21973

Shortie - 23 Sep 2014 15:55 - 16323 of 21973

jimmy b - 23 Sep 2014 22:54 - 16324 of 21973

Claret Dragon - 24 Sep 2014 07:27 - 16325 of 21973

Just my opinion. Anyone else agree or disagree that the Major Indices have peaked and more likely to slide down the other side?

Shortie - 24 Sep 2014 10:38 - 16326 of 21973

I'm staying long for now, if 6620 support fails then of course I'll review.. I currently average 6732.8 across two bets.
