FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

chris - it would do no harm for you and DD to pipe down too :-)

cynic - 07 Oct 2014 17:38 - 16415 of 21973

much more importantly

Dow is having a few short and short-lived bounces, but it is of concern that even 16900 is now looking too great a hurdle
if that is so, then about 16750 becomes the next hoped support

:-(
no love on dow
i'm still holding a relatively old dow long and have made a few shekels this afternoon/evening on that tack, but it's certainly looking very sick and barely holding 16800 at the moment

skinny - 07 Oct 2014 20:17 - 16418 of 21973

16770 as I type.

cynic - 07 Oct 2014 20:21 - 16419 of 21973

there's some earnings numbers out after close which include kfc
i don't expect these to be good for i recollect something nasty in china re chix a month or so ago
it is therefore very likely that dow will indeed hit 16750 or even a tad below .... if so, i think i'll be a modest buyer
it may also be worth considering shorting ftse as that currently shows (cash) at -37 (6467) which may be on the generous side for tomorrow's opening

cynic - 07 Oct 2014 20:25 - 16420 of 21973

money with mouth
small dow long at 16757.6 .... just missed the current bottom by a few points

tomasz - 07 Oct 2014 20:54 - 16421 of 21973

recent bottom.. (?!) lol
must be expertise knowledge..

cynic - 07 Oct 2014 20:56 - 16422 of 21973

if you're actually interested, which i doubt, then 16750 though it has now fallen slightly below that

tomasz - 07 Oct 2014 20:58 - 16423 of 21973

wtf ?! lol
16723..and counting of course.. and will more..

16595 now starting to look the point for decent support :-(

cynic - 08 Oct 2014 16:30 - 16426 of 21973

good grief!
markets all over the place, though see no reason

jimmy b - 08 Oct 2014 16:48 - 16427 of 21973

All the more reason for a nice bounce somewhere down the road . Xmas rally anyone ?

HARRYCAT - 08 Oct 2014 16:52 - 16428 of 21973

Ughhhhh....someone has mentioned Santa ......already!!!! ;o)

jimmy b - 08 Oct 2014 16:55 - 16429 of 21973

I know sorry ,i don't even do xmas , no decorations ,nothing i'm the original Scrooge .

goldfinger - 08 Oct 2014 16:55 - 16430 of 21973

Cant see why people are moaning about the markets Jimmy. If you go back to last year at this time approx, the FTSE 350 was far lower and look what a rally we got. Folk have short memories. Should use a trading diary.

That's what i was thinking GF could have a good couple of months ahead ...

goldfinger - 08 Oct 2014 16:59 - 16432 of 21973

See what I mean from the chart. MACD well over sold now aswel.

Its just a case of managing the portfolio and THEN SPRINGING INTO ACTION, COUNTER ATTACKING LIKE A SNIPER IN THE LONG GRASS AND ATTACKING THE PREY.
