THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

It is a cunning plot.

They are growing leaks on it to sell to the English water boards.

Unknown assailants kill six at Cairo protest

Unknown assailants have killed at least six people at a protest against Egypt's ruling generals near the defence ministry in Cairo, officials say.

Witnesses described how the attackers set on them at dawn using rocks, clubs, firebombs and firing shotguns.

Up to 100 people were also reportedly injured and are being treated at a field clinic in the Abbasiya district.

mnamreh, apology accepted but really not necessary! In this day and age it is difficult not to have a jaded viewpoint! I thought it was a good opportunity to highlight the need for donations of blood. It just so happens that I also know the family well!

British Council heritage films put online

More than 120 short films offering "snapshots of the UK's cultural, sporting, industrial and political heritage" have been put online.

The documentaries from the British Council's archive date back to 1939, when the Council commissioned the films to showcase Britain to the world.

Topics included health care, the legal system, Shakespeare and how the Times was produced each day.

"That's why we've been pushing for banks to pay out less to their shareholders and employees and instead retain profits as a cushion against possible loss"
====================================

As Lloyds shareholder I would say his 'pushing' policy is working! ba****d!

Just being looking back to the Pie and Pint meetings in 2005 prior to the time of "banking crisis".

I can recall talking about the impending problem of the ease of borrowing money and the "housing market boom" and mortgages of over 100% be available on multiples of 5 or more times personal incomes. When, previously, borrowings on a mortgage was generally restricted to 2.5 times income and needing a large deposit.

Also, it was the heyday of sub-prime mortgages based on unsubstantiated and insecure futures earnings “self-audited” at crazy levels.
I held some of the sub-prime companies and remember having a sleepless night having realised the possible consequences and selling out the next morning.
I can remember chatting about waiting for the bubble to burst and realising that it was bound to happen, but also realising trying to get the general public at that time to tolerate introductions of legislation to restrain the banks and the market.
Also, not only the tory party and UKIP followers were pushing for more deregulations of the financial markets, but many liberals and labour party members were supporting them. It was a toxic madness.
It was crazy, but there were many who were pointing out at that time a crash was coming.
Personally, I have to admit although I saw the problem coming, it was later than I expected and didn’t see the degree to which the UK economy and World markets would be effected.
But, I think, Merv the Swerve, the government and informed politicians should have foreseen possible problems.

But doing anything about the problem and taking the “voters” with you if you tried to resolve them was a different matter.

Anyone know where to find the average PEs of FTSE 100, 250 and 350 for years from 2000 till current year.

Yields as well, may be useful.

skinny - 03 May 2012 13:19 - 16460 of 81564

That's a big ask Fred - I doubt you will find that breadth of data in one place and probably not for free.

skinny - 03 May 2012 13:28 - 16461 of 81564

A quick scout around brings up sites like this one.

Fred1new - 03 May 2012 15:00 - 16462 of 81564

Skinny,

Thanks.

I have been wanting look back as many of the shares I filter out on chart trends seem to me often in advance of PE and projected earnings which makes me reticent.

But when I look at a few of the shares with "good" yields and relevant PRs they seem to a little hesitant.

Generally only bet on Ftse 350. But this market is not easy.

PS. I have used Sharescope for about 20years and could with a bit of fiddling and Excel dig the figures out.

This_is_me - 03 May 2012 16:41 - 16463 of 81564

I take it that the squelched Fred is still doing his best to prompte policies and thoughts de3signed to wreck our country.

Haystack - 03 May 2012 18:10 - 16464 of 81564

Are we all looking forward to a Boris victory this evening?

Fred1new - 03 May 2012 20:14 - 16465 of 81564

No, but the votes in the rest of the country will be an interesting verdict on the competence of the Cameron Shambles.

Strange how many ministers won't appear for interviews.

Perhaps, they can't get through checks at the borders.

Haystack - 03 May 2012 21:16 - 16466 of 81564

The vote will show pretty much nothing. It is just a mid term election.

Fred1new - 03 May 2012 21:25 - 16467 of 81564

Hays.

Just discontent!

Nothing really!

2336: The BBC's elections expert Professor John Curtice says we may need to keep a watch on UKIP this evening. So far in six wards in which they stood they have averaged 21% of the vote. Perhaps more importantly in the three of these wards that they also contested last year their vote is up by as much as 7 points on 12 months ago. Too early to make too much of this - but do not be surprised if we have more to say about this later in the night.
