FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stock markets are open for trade on Monday, but bond markets are closed for the Columbus Day holiday. Trading in energy and metals futures is also business as usual. The next holiday for U.S. stock markets is Thanksgiving on Nov. 27. On Monday, however, Canadian stocks were closed for trade in observance of the local Thanksgiving Day. Japanese markets were also closed for a holiday.

jimmy b - 13 Oct 2014 20:56 - 16502 of 21973

cynic - 13 Oct 2014 20:59 - 16503 of 21973

Not inferring we go off a cliff from here, Just see the same pattern starting as in 2007. Just the way it feels to me.

Fred1new - 13 Oct 2014 22:12 - 16508 of 21973

I hope you are wrong I am long.

What am I doing?

cynic - 14 Oct 2014 10:44 - 16509 of 21973

looks like another awful day dragging out before us
managed to scrape a small profit on a dow long o'night - more luck than judgement
other than that, little jolly apart from (for me) ASC and QPP

cynic - 14 Oct 2014 15:03 - 16510 of 21973

a decent recovery since my last post, but dow is still all over the place so goodness knows how today will pan out

nimble fingered shortie and skinny are probably making a fortune in both directions

cynic - 14 Oct 2014 16:01 - 16511 of 21973

and whiled i was gassing with young sticky, i'm glad to see a nice 64 point profit limit hit for a just a very small dow long ..... every little helps :-)

Shortie - 14 Oct 2014 16:07 - 16512 of 21973

;-)

cynic - 14 Oct 2014 16:20 - 16513 of 21973

have another small long at 16420 for which i have targetted 16495 as the next hurdle is ~16505

klal - 14 Oct 2014 16:44 - 16514 of 21973

Wrong thread...

cynic - 14 Oct 2014 19:59 - 16515 of 21973

dow fizzling out which is a pity as that will mean yet another weak opening for ftse
however, if dow falls back just a little more then i may well buy back at 16340 or a bit lower

===============

16329.1 so now fingers x'ed that it's not money down the drain
still, only a pretty tweeny outlay

skinny - 15 Oct 2014 06:25 - 16516 of 21973

I hope you held through the subsequent spike down.

Shortie - 15 Oct 2014 10:01 - 16517 of 21973

I've crystallised my currency and indices plays for a profit... Not much in my portfolio except ASC, JMAT and IMG right now...
