I have now ran the advisor and reinstalled some updates, however, one update for Widows Media Player refuses to install as it could not copy a file. Looked to uninstall WMP but it does not form part of the programs, presumably as it is part of the O/S?
Any thoughts? Ignore? Issue is Q828026

I will have to upgrade/replace my PC soon due to one or two things like speed and out of date technology etc etc.
I SHALL BE BUYING 2OFF 17" screens to view things on a daily basis (probably 3 applications at once). The problem is not such much the PC itself but trying to identify a suitable alternative in the event of travelling abroad and having a limited machine from which to conduct on -line trading.
Clearly I could look at buying a laptop in addition to the PC but someone has suggested buying a Tablet and using it with the 2 screens whilst at home and taking it away abroad to use on-line.
Can anyone offer any advice please?

Same issues as before. I have ran the Belarc advisor and ensured that all software is properly installed. All updates that are available from Microsoft are installed.
Definately seesm to be a performance issue. Seems OK at first but later on when I try to open an additional window, eg Yahoo for emails, it either refuses to open or grabs an existing open window and uses that for its purposes. Other times additional windows refuse to open. Task Manager refuses to operate as well when it has problems.
I can solve the problem by closing some programs.
Would my flicking screen issue be down to the version of Java that I am using? I have Microsoft VM and the Sun version.

I have problems running Windows 95/98 games, with or without compatibility mode setting, on my XP machine. The games would run OK but the cooling fans just gets
faster and faster - IMHO, due to a rapidly heating processor.
Any ideas?

axdpc, why do you think that is a problem? the colling fan may just be running faster because the processor is working hard, which is probably OK. Does it slow down again later? I am not saying it isnt a problem but it may not be.

Spaceman, the fan is usually hardly audible but when running 95/98 games it
just gets faster/louder and faster/louder and faster/louder very soon after the game starts, ... the fan slows down the game is terminated.
Optimist, thank, will check it out.
How do I check whether there is any of those 'clock-varying' program running?
(i.e. those program which 'slows' down the apparent speed of old games when running on a faster machine??

Scussy - I wish I knew as I have the same problem. AVG picks them all up for deletion but they really drive me mad. Be thankful though, my friend who gets a genuine 100+ mails a day for work received over 150 of these yesterday.
Anyone got any ideas?

Now is most probably the right time to change your ISP, don't you think?
With such a change also comes a change of e-mail address(es) and with that comes a lot of notifications from you to your subscriptions, address book and so on.
My ISP is OneTel. I can recommend them to you. They also filter a lot of dodgy stuff out before it gets to me. This feature might be just what you want.

CS,
i have been told by a few that AVG are good and was tempted to use but i now have upgraded to Nortons 2004,i don,t think i can run them together,
strange that when using NAV 2003 it picked up t6he virus attachment and deleated it,now with NAV 2004 it repairs it,so the settings say, don't like that so know i have set to ask me,i will see what happens,i have blocked most of them what come in so getting better, also ticked the box in outlook express
do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could be a virus,
this does work but stops most attachments comming through,32 so far today,
doc,
i agree i might need to change my email,i have more then one mail account and as its only scussy that gets them i can just stop using that one if it gets worse, most are comming with .ch and .de and most are blocked, hopefully in the end they will dry up and go away,
iam with NTL and i have 2 tele lines and dig tv with 4 boxes,so i don't think i will change ISP yet,
many thanks
steve

I understand about NTL and can see where you might be coming from.

Password Windows login problem:
A so-call professional IT expert was trying to network my pc (Win XP Pro) to my laptop (Win2000 Pro), so that I could share my broadband connection.
I use my laptop to tunnel into the vpn of a company I do work for, so it is configured accordingly.
The problem is that after the 'expert' altered the Computer Name in System Properties from the company Domain to a new Workgroup name, and rebooted, my password no longer works at reboot so I cannot get in to change it back.
I hope someone understands this and can help..ta

Thanks Optimist.
Sadly, due to being a remote user, responsible for av upgrades etc on my local session, I was given admin rights on my username though the vpn was closed at the time.
It's all a bit of a mess, I spoke to the administrator and we tried all the passwords he could think of but no joy.
