Mediwatch-A World Leader in the Urology Diagnostic Sector (MDW)

banjomick - 10 May 2007 23:36

*****This thread is setup mainly to gain information
relating to Mediwatch in a quick and easy way and IS IN NO WAY A
RECOMMENDATION TO BUY!********

Mediwatch-A Synopsis:
Mediwatch was established in 1996 and has developed a range of specialist
medical equipment for the diagnosis of urological disorders. The group joined the
AIM in 2000 through a reverse into Prostcare plc, which at the time was valued at
8m.While the vast majority of sales were generated in the UK,there was a
substantial indirect export business involving a number of agents, supplying into
Europe,North America,Australasia and Asia,notably Japan.
Group revenues are set to increase rapidly following the acquisition of the former
Medtronic Urodynamis Division, which has introduced a fundamental presence in
North America. The deal was in 2006 with the sales division building from 2007.
With the inclusion of the Medtronic systems now owned by Mediwatch they now
can offer a 'One Stop Shop' for the diagnosis of various urology disorders with the
benefit of Mediwatch systems having the ability to electronically send data from the
various tests to a central data base!Oh and plus the added bonus of PSAwatch and
now PCA3plus!

More than 30 million PSA tests are performed annually in the USA alone!

Just for the record and to even things up,this is Treblewide's view (near end
of 2008):

"in short 3p by chrimbo and a real chance if they do not get rid of management they
will go into receivership.....when they bough the MDT business I said at the time it
must have been a bag of shite as they only paid buttons for it.......looks like that was
fairly correct......i feel sorry for shareholders"

Treblewide has been filtered from my eyes for his abuse, lies and general behavior but
it's a free country (I think) so do as you see fit.

It started with:

Treblewide - 05 Jun 2007 15:49 - 33 of 1747
still short

Treblewide - 18 Jun 2007 00:24 - 69 of 1747
interesting stuff from that article...very few men die from prosate cancer and it is not an agressive disease....treatment can be worse than the disease.......kind of suggests their whole business model is based on sand to me.......but hey who wants a balanced view.

Treblewide - 18 Jun 2007 00:31 - 76 of 1754
exercise and sex may cause a raised PSA...so you guys may have stumbled on a test for fit shaggers :-)

I am gonna name Me-Di-Watch

Gonna-go-bust-soon-iwatch

Treblewide - 18 Jun 2007 10:59 - 85 of 1754
minder...i do not make light of prosate cancer....show me one post where I do...i make fun out of this company yes but not the disease so wind yer neck in pal.

show me any trace of a profit and i will maybe change my mind

Treblewide - 18 Jun 2007 15:54 - 97 of 1754
minder made a small loss yes which I have more than made up for shorting it........and i guess your average holding is 3p.....aye right.

Aalso I closed out my short at 8p for a loss of the spread if memory serves me correctly.

currently short from 13.25....i thank you and goodnight

Treblewide - 23 Jul 2007 12:36 - 154 of 1747
more of the same......thank god i still do not own shares in this lot...will they ever
make a penny profit....looks doubtful......cannot even manage a small supply chain.

ect ect ect

with the last few posts:

Treblewide - 30 Mar 2009 09:16 - 1704 of 1754
you are a lunatic mick.....words fail me.

and ps i only post under treblewide on any financial web site....i know you cannot say the same......you have been calling this as a buy and nothing but a buy for about 7 years...it says it all really about your stock picking ability

i notice the downtrend ins now establishing itself....re-visit of the lows again by the looks of things

Treblewide - 30 Mar 2009 22:41 - 1712 of 1754
mick no i dont know what each product does...i dont think that is important...the numbers tell everything and even though you must spend hours on web sites searching for stuff that is not even related to MDW you fail to grasp the basics...they consistently lost money and now seem to be making some...my call to 3p was correct and i think if they had not got their shit together they could have gone under

i was not interested in them as a long play while they were loosing money depsite whatever rubbish you posted regarding piss sticks or whatever you bang on about.

and yes it was poor trading..having an avergae of 12 and averaging down to 6-7p while they were at 3p....is terrible trading...that cannot even be debated...the very fact you know so much about the products means you have fallen in love with this company......which is very dangerous when investing....

the numbers are the important things...i was right on 3p, the company is posting slightly better figures but we are in a bear market which has not bottomed yet so the price will fall further

you are a 1 trick pony that posts irrelevant links...dont bother to respond i can be bothered getting into a debate with you.....away and cut and paste some more flags

I have been chased from here and now ADVFN,has the boy got a problem?

treblewide - 3 Aug'09 - 14:46 - 22345 of 22412

post 22342 is classic.....so mick advfn is not a good source when the consensus is sell?

begs the question why you spend so much time polluting it with your bull tripe?

question....so MDW share price has gone up, it has gone down etc etc...during all of that time has mick ever been able to find any subjectivity in his posting ie has he ever critisised anything?

i really think he may be getting paid by MDW...the whole thing is very bizzare.

mick i notice you referred to your threads as "promotion of Mediwatch"

can you confirm if you are getting financially rewarded by the company for this?

664k overdrawn....takes a long time to pay back at 39k profit every 6 months.

drawn down overdraft has increased by 170k and they paid 33k to service that overdraft and made 39k profit...as i keep saying my local fish and chip shop make more money than this lot.

margins have been squeezed...psa watch now off the agenda in terms of updates....not 1 single reason to buy and yet you lot think this share price will go up??.....am mystified why it would increase? genuinely why is this comapny under valued?? i cannot see it and dont bang on about fairfax saying they are going to make x amount...they have never been near to getting it right

if i were a holder i would be selling now at 6p if i could and buying back in the 2-3p range which the chart is saying is now a certainty....i expecta full year loss

i told you all to sell at 14p and at 11p (it is all there in black and white) and that it was going to 3 pence..i got abuse mick called me an idiot and suggested it was going to 50p......still a sell and my short (which was posted in real time over the road) is nicely in profit.

toodle pip...will log back in when it gets to 3p....

still time to get out at 6p.....dont understand why you would not sell at 6p when they are obviously going to half in value...if you are a long term mdw bull you can buy twice as many shares at 3p and maybe possibly one day see a profit on your holding?

treblewide - 4 Aug'09 - 12:44 - 22381 of 22412

last chance to sell at 6p for your shares folks

treblewide - 4 Aug'09 - 14:48 - 22387 of 22412

so question...is psawatch is so great...why has there been no huge surge in revenue figures from UK and Europe on the back of it being sold?

the whole reason a lot of you hold this is psawatch...it has not made them any money in Europe which could be argued when taken as a whole is not much smaller than the USA.....this company is not going to change overnight with US approval...at bets it would be a selling opportunity for long term holders

i really think a lot of you have to ignore some of the nonsense ramping going on here...the company is draining cash and there margins are reducing (despite this wonder PSA machine they have for sale)

i really think the future looks bleak for mediwatch...if someone can put in concise terminology why MDW is a buy i am all ears....dont point me at fairfax report...they are a bunch of clowns as well...that interim report is shocking and i mean really poor.

costs out of control...margins squeezed, cash running out...no real revenue growth, does this sound like a growth company to you?

sell at 6p

treblewide - 4 Aug'09 - 15:50 - 22391 of 22412

god i have heard it all now...mick can you counter my points about declining margins and cash issues without nonsense posts about peopel having insider information...what a crock and what a clown.

so just so i have this straight in my head...when you put in effort to ramp these shares it is all great and you expect cuddles? (and if anyone disagrees you throw your toys out the pram liek an old woman)

when i put up a few posts to explain why i am short it is an organised attempt to get the share price down because i have insider inforamtion from the US?

were you the Iraqi information minister in a previous role? lol

treblewide - 5 Aug'09 - 19:24 - 22409 of 22412

i wonder what thier overdraft is limited to....1M?

if so they have 12 months of life left at current perfomance...how many of you hlders have considered the chances of them going bust?....i would not rule it out...would love to know how much further the banks will let them go into debt before they pull the plug

treblewide - 5 Aug'09 - 19:37 - 22411 of 22412

seriously if i were a holder i would look at the interims and ask how much longer can they go on burning cash.......and with all the averaging down the bulls have done over the years i bet some are more exposed than they should be....good luck...think you might need it

Reliable prostate cancer test may be decade away

21st March 2009, 11:45 WST

"It may take a decade to replace the prostate cancer test that doctors say is inadequate and risky, yet is used on 75 percent of American men 50 or older."

"The research, aimed at distinguishing slow-growing cancers that rarely cause death from malignancies that can spread and kill, will take at least 10 years before theyre in common use, said Christine Berg, also at the NCI.
In the meantime, scientists are tweaking the current test to make the results more precise."

I beat prostate cancer and now I want to help other sufferers

By Sue Leonard
Friday March 20 2009

"Men have a one in 12 chance of developing prostate cancer. In 2005, 2,406 men were diagnosed with the disease. Yet this particular form of cancer has a low public profile compared to others. This is partly because men have traditionally been reluctant to talk about it -- a state of affairs that the Irish Cancer Society decided to address."

"At first, men were slow to come forwards, but the situation is improving.

"They are asking their GP to get their PSA check -- the main test for prostate cancer," says Olwen Ryan, patient support group manager with the Irish Cancer Society."

"Prostate cancer grows very slowly. And some men, with the advice of their specialist, opt for 'watchful waiting'. In their view, the side effects of strong treatments outweigh the benefits. They have regular PSA tests and rectal examinations, but wait for the cancer to develop, or show symptoms before thinking about more active treatment."

"We're keen to spread awareness," he says. "Men should get their PSA done when they are 50 -- or at 45, if there has been a history of cancer. My cancer was caught early, and that made all the difference."

Blood Test Detects Early Cancer, Saves Man's Life
Posted: March 20, 2009 10:47 PM

OKLAHOMA CITY -- During a blood donation, Andy McMinn paid $15 for an extra screening, a PSA test, to check for prostate cancer.

"At my age, I thought, Well, I'm going to start doing it and once a year, I try to do it around my birthday,'" McMinn said.

Andy's test showed an elevated PSA level, and doctors later confirmed he had cancer.

"He said at the lab, The biopsy came back and you have tested positive for cancer,'" McMinn said.

Prostate not taboo topic

Friday, March 20, 2009, 12:58

But while improved treatment has been a core part of the charity's work, raising awareness has been equally important.

"When we first started we had a few well-read men asking for their prostate blood test, the PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood test.

"After about a year a lot more men were coming in with their partners asking for the test, so it was their partners pushing them.

"After a couple of years we were having men coming in on their own having had the blood test, so people's awareness and knowledge has improved through the appeal's education."

Prostate cancer campaign in North Yorkshire
1:37pm Sunday 22nd March 2009

HEALTH bosses are urging the men of North Yorkshire to find out more about one of the UKs biggest killers.

Prostate cancer kills one man every hour in the UK - yet only 30 percent of adults are aware of what the prostate gland does and the crucial role it plays for men.

Latest statistics show that between 2003 and 2005 there were 1,779 diagnosed cases of prostate cancer in North Yorkshire.

Wanita Umno Organises Cancer Awareness Campaign

KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 (Bernama) -- Wanita Umno's Social Development and Welfare Bureau is organising a campaign to instill awareness on the dangers of cancer and its effects on families among Umno members, especially the men, in conjunction with the party's general assembly next week.

Bureau chairman Datuk Mastika Junaidah Husin said such a programme would be useful to provide information on cancer, especially to the men, most of who do not pay much attention to their health.

She said a consultant radiologist from the National Cancer Society, Dr Sulaiman Tamanang, would be invited to give a talk on prostate cancer.

Here is another view point realting to the recent two papers and I think what we are seeing are the various views more or less coming to the same conclusion, now people have had time to digest them.

What to Make of the Prostate Cancer Screening Studies

March 23, 2009 02:05 PM ET | Bernadine Healy, M.D. | Permanent Link | Print
By Bernadine Healy

"Two ongoing prostate screening studies, one in the United States and the other in Europe, provide an early peek at mortality information. The studies, discussed in the just released issue of The New England Journal of Medicine, have caused a storm of confusion, since they seem to conflict. Actually, the studies are complementary, both make a lot of sense, and they are certain to influence medical practice even before they are completed.

For background, U.S. health policymakers are concerned that too many people get screened with the prostate-specific antigen test, which can identify prostate cancer long before symptoms develop. For this slow-growing tumor, that can mean before it needs to be detected, leading to unnecessary treatment, side effects, and cost. Thus, many think PSAs should be reined in. In contrast, in Europe, where PSAs are not routinely available to screen healthy men for disease, prostate cancer mortality is higher, leading some to believe that the reins on the test should be loosened up."

"In the meantime, practice continues to change. PSA screening has improved since the trials began and will get better yet. Doctors have come to recognize that watchful waiting is a sound option when a prostate cancer is small and slow growing. And regardless of their views on early screening, most urologists in the United States today agree that the decision to detect and treat prostate cancer needs to be personalized, and ultimately made by the patient."

AUA PRESIDENT RELEASES STATEMENT ON PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING STUDIES

LINTHICUM, MD, March 23, 2009John M. Barry, MD, president of the American Urological Association (AUA), released the following statement this week:

Earlier this week, researchers in the United States and Europe released two separate studies about prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening and its potential effect on mortality. These two studies present differing perspectives on this screening test, and further underscore the greater debate about how physicians use and interpret PSA in men. As these studies make headlines around the world, it is important for patients to understand that these studies have become a part of the overall national discussion about PSA. Both of these studies will be featured in plenary presentations during the upcoming Annual Scientific Meeting of the AUA next month in Chicago.

As the experts in diseases of the prostate, urologists are the specialists who most often diagnose and treat prostate cancer. The AUA, as the leading organization for urologists around the world, is frequently called on to provide the specialtys perspective on prostate cancer screening, and has consistently maintained that the PSA test is a valuable screening tool. The decision to screen is one that a man should make in conjunction with his physician, and should incorporate known prostate cancer risk factors, such as family history of prostate cancer, age, ethnicity/race and whether or not a man has had a previous negative prostate biopsy. These factors are different for every man and, therefore, the benefits of screening should be considered in the broader perspective.

The AUA is expected to release a new Best Practice Statement about PSA testing during its 2009 Annual Scientific Meeting. This guidance was prepared by AUA prostate cancer experts, and is expected to help physicians and patients understand the individualized approach that is necessary for prostate cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment.

The third edition of InMedica's report on the global ultrasound market predicts that worldwide revenues will continue to experience robust growth and exceed $6 billion by 2012

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Despite the current economic downturn, the third edition of InMedica's report on the global ultrasound market predicts that worldwide revenues will continue to experience robust growth and exceed $6 billion by 2012. The flexibility, ease of use and relatively low cost of ultrasound equipment has ensured continued growth in the market despite the current economic conditions. Moreover, the trend to miniaturisation and the quick adoption of hand-carried ultrasound equipment is fuelling growth.

"There is an increasing confidence in hand-carried systems globally. Previously the adoption of these systems was much quicker in North America and Western Europe but other regions of the world such as Eastern Europe, Latin America and parts of the Asia Pacific, are beginning to show significant interest in this equipment. The demand is coming from traditional applications, such as OB / GYN, and increasingly from point-of-care applications" reported Diane Wilkinson, Market Research Analyst at InMedica. "The global ultrasound market is being driven by the need to maximise space, time and efficiency and hand-carried systems are evolving to adapt to any given environment. This can be seen by an increase in the number of hand-carried products designed for specific applications, such as nerve blocking, musculoskeletal and breast imaging", continued Wilkinson.

The down-turn in the economy is also favouring the lower-end of the cart-based ultrasound equipment market with greatest growth found in the mid-range segment, and higher than usual growth forecast for the low-end segment, particularly in 2009. There is a step wise movement away from very high-end systems due to the increasing functionality and picture quality of systems at the lower end of the market. The improving quality and functionality of lower-end systems is helping to stabilise prices in an otherwise price competitive market.

This is a bit old (2007) but the article is more relevant now especially with the new partnership with Inverness Medical along with their distribution network for PSAwatch and any new tests.

"The global point of care (POC) testing market is currently estimated to be worth US$11.3 billion in 2007 and is growing at 11% a year. POC testing accounts for approximately 34% of the US$33.6 billion global in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) testing market. Diagnostic testing accounts for only between 1-2% of government healthcare expenditures worldwide, yet influences between 60-70% of healthcare decisions.

The changing face of the POC industry

Double digit growth expectancy for POC testing has spurred considerable investment and interest from the industry. Although the POC sector is, in many respects, relatively immature it is already characterised by a great deal of M&A activity.

The most active acquirer at present is Inverness Medical Innovations which has made multiple acquisitions in recent years, buying up leading companies such as Biosite, Cholestech and Hemosense among others, and providing the company with a significant presence in cardiology and other segments."

Population based prostate cancer screening in north Mexico reveals a high prevalence of aggressive tumors in detected cases

BMC Cancer 2009, 9:91doi:10.1186/1471-2407-9-91

Published: 24 March 2009

Background

Prostate Cancer (PCa) is the second most frequent neoplasia in men worldwide. Previous reports suggest that the prevalence of PCa in Hispanic males is lower than in Africans (including communities with African ancestry) and Caucasians, but higher than in Asians. Despite these antecedents, there are few reports of open population screenings for PCa in Latin American communities. This article describes the results of three consecutive screenings in the urban population of Monterrey, Mexico.

Methods

After receiving approval from our University Hospital's Internal Review Board (IRB), the screening was announced by radio, television, and press, and it was addressed to male subjects over 40 years old in general. Subjects who consented to participate were evaluated at the primary care clinics of the University Health Program at UANL, in the Metropolitan area of Monterrey. Blood samples were taken from each subject for prostate specific antigen (PSA) determination; they underwent a digital rectal examination (DRE), and were subsequently interviewed to obtain demographic and urologic data. Based on the PSA (above 4.0 ng/ml) and DRE results, subjects were appointed for transrectal biopsy (TRB).

Results

A total of 973 subjects were screened. Prostate biopsy was recommended to 125 men based on PSA values and DRE results, but it was performed in only 55 of them. 15 of these biopsied men were diagnosed with PCa, mostly with Gleason scores 7.

Conclusions

Our results reflect a low prevalence of PCa in general, but a high occurrence of high grade lesions (Gleason 7) among patients that resulted positive for PCa. This observation remarks the importance of the PCa screening programs in our Mexican community and the need for strict follow-up campaigns.

Lets look at Turkey.................

Why Do Men Refuse Prostate Cancer Screening? Demographic Analysis In Turkey
Main Category: Prostate / Prostate Cancer
Also Included In: Urology / Nephrology
Article Date: 15 Dec 2008 - 0:00 PST

UroToday.com - Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, with a high incidence rate in Turkey. However, the early detection and diagnosis rates are considerably lower among Turkish men as compared with their counterparts in Western countries. This fact reflects a lack of awareness and fear of prostate cancer as well as low participation in prevention activities. To reduce the disparities in prostate cancer survival, there is a great need to increase men's participation in screening programs.

150,000 people get cancer in Turkey every year

05 February 2009, Thursday
TODAYS ZAMAN WITH WIRES İSTANBUL

"Key measures to be taken to prevent the "disease of the century" -- cancer -- were discussed once again on Feb. 4, World Cancer Day, in Turkey, a country with nearly 350,000 cancer patients and 150,000 new cases every year. "

"The most frequently seen types of cancer are lung cancer, stomach cancer, bladder cancer, colon cancer, larynx and prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women.

World Health Organization (WHO) statistics show that 12.5 percent of all deaths in the world are caused by cancer. They further note that 25 million people live with cancer worldwide while 11 million new cases are seen every year. Estimates put new cancer cases at 16 million annually by 2020 and 24 million annually by 2030. Furthermore, 75 million people will live with cancer, two-thirds of them in developing countries."

"New early cancer diagnosis center opens in Ankara
A new Early Cancer Diagnosis, Screening and Education Center (KETEM) opened in Ankara on World Cancer Day.

Turkey's 86th such center opened as part of the Ankara Oncology Education and Research Hospital. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Nurullah Zengin, the hospital's chief physician, said cancer is a health problem that becomes more serious with each passing day. Stressing the importance of early diagnosis in cancer treatment, Zengin said steps taken by Turkey related to anti-smoking are promising since smoking is a major cause of cancer.

Ministry of Health Anti-Cancer Branch President Murat Tuncer said the early diagnosis centers project, initiated in 2004 with 11 centers, has managed to open at least one center in every province so far. "This is not just a building. There are 150,000 lives to be saved," he said. Tuncer also stated that they plan to open an "International Cancer Institute" in the hospital's garden."
