Field GIS Provides Advanced Functionality, Intuitive Interface, and Real-Time, Wireless Data Updates
Redlands, California-Truckee Donner Public Utility District (PUD) received the first Cooperative Innovators Award presented at the 2005 National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) conference. The honor is presented to leading electric cooperatives for their groundbreaking and unique use of technology to improve service reliability and provide enhanced customer service.
Its an honor to be recognized by this prestigious organization for our technology efforts, said Ian Fitzgerald, GIS coordinator, Truckee Donner PUD. We collaborated with Tadpole Technology with the specific goal of providing true mobile GIS that was focused on the end user. The mobile GIS provides a highly developed technology that enables field crews to do their jobs better and provide our customers with optimized service.
The mobile GIS provides enormous value to field personnel and to the organization, says Bill Meehan, director of utility solutions, ESRI. Crews have an enhanced ability to use and update geographic and other data quickly and easily using automated tools. This means more accurate and complete information is available throughout the organization as a whole. Whether responding to an outage, upgrading infrastructure, or ensuring the best possible service, Truckee Donner can deploy its mobile GIS for a number of uses.
The award was presented at the NRECA/Touchstone Energy Connect 2005 Conference and Expo. The event occurred May 15-18, 2005, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1942, NRECA is a national service organization dedicated to representing the national interests of cooperative electric utilities and the consumers they serve. NRECAs more than 900 member cooperatives serve 37 million people in 47 states.
Truckee Donner and the Geospatial Solutions Division of Tadpole Technology Group developed the groundbreaking mobile solution using ESRIs ArcGIS Engine platform and GO! Sync (Redline) from Tadpole Technology. Truckee Donner PUD provides electric and water service to the town of Truckee, located in the central Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. The Geospatial Solutions Division of Tadpole Technology Group, an ESRI business partner, provides enterprise infrastructure software solutions to support the management, replication, and distribution of geographic data within and between organizations.
The application allows field crews to replace previous pen-and-paper methods with new redline technology to provide a digital environment for sketching corrections and work-related drawings to underlying GIS data. Information updates are seamlessly and automatically posted back to the enterprise server and distributed to field users.
Deployed on Tablet PCs, the intuitive interface provides powerful sketching tools, trace analysis, fast and efficient querying, and other functionality crucial for optimized service. In addition, GIS routing and GPS support provide advanced navigation. Foremen, linemen, inspectors, and others working in the field now have a superior mobile solution that requires little training and gives daily information updates for both field and office personnel.
Were already planning future improvements to the application, says Fitzgerald. Were working to expand the functionality to include integration of work order management as well as underground location requests. Future enhancements will include an areawide wireless network through the fiber-optic utility we are in the process of building.

Tad is up and all's right with the world. I have decided to take an optimistic view of life. Forget about TA, lack of sales, GEM, CEO sales, losses, for visible earnings. Tad's sp is going up and that's that. Next stop 10p.

IRVINE, CA and THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS--(MARKET WIRE)--Jul 25, 2005 -- Stream Theory, Inc., a division of Tadpole Technology plc (London:TAD.L - News), together with its Dutch channel partner StreamTech B.V., has licensed the patented StreamFlow(TM) games-on-demand platform to cable giant Essent Kabelcom for the purpose of delivering PC games to their @Home network subscribers throughout the Netherlands. Initially subscribers will enjoy free trials of the on-demand games service, which will become commercially available early next year. A variety of genres and popular games, such as Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness by Eidos Interactive and Colin McRae Rally 2004 by Codemasters, will be offered, with additional titles to be constantly added.
The StreamFlow platform takes over where CD's and downloads fall short. Gamers want the latest hits and popular favorites quickly and without the hassle of searching in stores for CD's or waiting for long downloads to complete, ultimately installing them on their PC's. Game publishers want to both extend their game distribution reach and fight CD piracy. Streaming, with shorter downloads and no installation, supports these goals.
"The on-demand games market is growing very rapidly throughout the Netherlands and Europe. Streaming is the only technology that can be assured to keep up with consumer demand," said Jimmy van der Have, President of StreamTech. "The StreamFlow platform is the industry standard for providing the best customer gameplay experience, security for game developers and publishers, and ease of use for broadband Internet service providers. We are honored to be a partner with Essent Kabelcom to bring this entertaining and interactive experience to @Home subscribers."

Snappy - I am in denial about Tad at present (see post 1680) and have therefore added a further 5 noughts to your suggested profit figure. I feel so liberated at present - I wonder whether my new medication is in some way contributing to my feelings of euphoria about Tad?

ML - in the politest way possible, please go away. Unsubstantiated rumours are the bane of this and many other BBs. Anyone can start a rumour but with Tad it soon becomes "fact" as the remaining Tadders cling to any faint hope. I was enjoying my period of denial over Tad but your message shook me out of my euphoria - you now owe me a pint.
