Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Bit pissed but that's okay it's Fiday yippeeee. Sitting in the garden yesterday when I heard a thump, looked round and saw a baby magpie scrabbling around on the lawn flapping what I can only describe as premature wings very fluffy. He or she is about 6 inches tall very rotund and was waddling around pitifully. Now the problem is we have two cats who as nature intended became very interested in this latest spectacle. Appreciating the possible consequences of this event I quickly dispatched said two cats indoors asap. Having done that and returning to the scene (I swear the only drug I was under the influence at the time was 3 cans of Bulmers cider and perhaps a quart of Famous Grouse Whisky, ( very apt bird picture on the bottle) My main concern was a ginger tom who only moved into the neighbourhood 12 months ago who upon his arrival with the absense of a bell round his neck killed every bird in his power, Until said owner was informed (thick bas....) that it might be a good idea in the interest of the bird population in our area to fit one, who objected vehemently and has subsequently binned it so no bird is safe yet again.
What to do? The parents who have nested here for the last two years are totally irresponsible, according to my wife same thing happened last year apparently (my wife is currently in hospital having had a hip replacement yesterday) but she was able with the aid of a ladder to put baby magpie back in the tree who was big enough to jump from branch to branch back into the nest. Sadly since last year the neighbours at the the back of us had a tree guy in who has pruned the branches of said tree out of reach of our ladder, shit was my first thought! Now mummy and daddy magpie though vociforous whenever any thing like a cat has approached including myself by the way are still totally clueless, they have knocked leaves of the tree presumably in an effort to feed baby magpie, who squawks like a good un, but has no chance of eating a bloody big leaf. For my part I have fed it bread soaked in water, wait for this the wife suggested from her hospital bed that I soak the bread in milk cause i'ts a baby ahhhh, for f sake I said the parents don't soak bread in milk, get a grip woman. Night time dawns what do I do? This little fellar is going to get eaten, brainwave where did i put our cats carry cages. Found one eventually, put in a nice warm blanket, saucer of water and some bread, placed baby magpie in said cage, goodnight god bless, safe. You guessed this morning when I went to release the poor mite cage covered in shite, but hey good news still alive. Now like most of the British Isles today was seriosly hot and obviously being a caring person I followed the little fellar as he hopped around the garden, every credit mummy and daddy magpie were still alert and dived bomb every cat and me following the progress of their little angel, who by 3pm was totally exhausted and collasped at certain intervals due to the heat. By now I had a certain determination that I was going to save this little blighter come what may, so I googled RSPB whatever and eventually spoke to a lady called Grace (so ironic that name) for advice. She with what can only ascern with very little emotion having informed her of the plight of this little fellar that realy it wouldn't be such a heartbreaker if the baby magpie died, cause they are the enemy they eat little birds. Oh okay, fu I thought, because by now I was on a mission the markets fucxxd and isn't nature wonderful and so what etc. Every bloody cat this evenig has sized this poor bugger up and mummy and daddy magpie have sorted them, at 9pm duskish with torch found the little fellar hiding behind cats cage, put a couple of leaves in, saucer of water and some bread soaked in water (not fing milk, for gods sake) so he is safely locked in till the morn. Next gripping episode tomorrow folks :O)

Oh my head, right get a grip playing golf in half an hour 2nd round qualifier club championship. Just been out and opened cat cage, baby magpie looking as bleary eyed as me but obviously not anything like as hung over. Just got time for a jug of coffee and 2 paracetemol, cracking day again, just hope that when I return the back lawn is free from the carnage of a baby magpie ripped to pieces in a mist of feathers.

Just got back from golf, sad news folks baby magpie deceased, is no more etc. flat on it's back. Think the heat and lack of parental care, 24 degrees in Aberdeen today had finally done for the poor little blighter, certainly doesn't appear to have been chewed by cats anyway so that's one blessing. I'll tell the wife it flew off :O)
