THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Warsi's expenses under scrutiny
The co-chair of the Conservative Party, Baroness Warsi, is facing Labour calls for an inquiry into her accommodation expenses.

Makes my blood boil.... £165 a night allowance.... robbing b*stards the lot of 'em

Haystack - 27 May 2012 21:52 - 16822 of 81564

That's a pretty small allowance bearing in mind the cost of staying in London for a night. It is all triviality.

Chris Carson - 28 May 2012 00:27 - 16823 of 81564

From wilkipedia, the free encyclopedia.

In Criminal Law, a fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual, the related adjective is fraudulent. The specific legal definition varies by by legal jurisdiction. Fraud is a crime, and also a civil law violation.

From a taxpayer (aka me), robbing bitch!

Haystack - 28 May 2012 00:56 - 16824 of 81564

It was 4 years ago and it is unlikely to have been fraud.

Chris Carson - 28 May 2012 05:17 - 16825 of 81564

Quite right Haystack no criminal offence whatsoever can be proved if £165 was the accepted allowance paid for an overnight stay in London four years ago. Money for old rope eh, especially if you can stay at a mates house for nowt. Baroness Warsi if the allegations are true was surely not alone in claiming these expenses under similar circumstances. For me personally leaves a nasty taste in the mouth old boy, what!

greekman - 28 May 2012 07:33 - 16826 of 81564

When people commit fraud or other similar offenses who work in a position of public office they are increasingly being charged with the additional offense of 'misconduct in public office'.
For years this was only used against Police Officers, and is now being used more and more against other public servants, 'BUT NOT MP's'.
As this sort of catch all offense is easy to prove, I wonder why no MPs or House of Lords members are being charged in this way.
Could it be that they are the law makers.
Turkeys voting for Christmas springs to mind.

Whilst appreciating that compared to many countries, we are still fairly honest, it does looks like corruption is becoming more prevalent in the UK.

Note...........When I was a Police Officer, anyone caught fiddling their expenses or similar would be sacked with loss of pension, with a court case following if it was more than a minor amount.
As far as I know, MP's get away with quite large amounts being forgiven if they pay it back, with very few going to court at all.
Fiddling b*****ds!

Thanks Skinny.
I should thank the guy who could raise this issue there. We hope the media (BBC) investigate it and clarify it for the sake of democracy and public.
