How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Didn't think of that. Sorry for not pointing it out. I guess I just use it so often I just didn't think about it.

Liverpool to qualify, Arsenal to not

Bones - 09 Mar 2005 15:35 - 1720 of 10502

Old timers of Arsenal might recall the European Fairs Cup (now EUFA Cup) final in 1970 (my father went to the home game when I were a nipper). Two legged finals in those days. Arsenal lost first leg in Anderlecht 3-1 and won home tie 3-0 to take the trophy. So tonight's omen is a 3-0 win for Arsenal :)

Scrip,

Any problems with AB Pro? Is hanging again.

Copper - 09 Mar 2005 15:54 - 1722 of 10502

Liverpool might be worth backing before the game starts. And Gerrard looks a good bet for 1st goalscorer at 13/1...might be worth a 5!!

chartist2004 - 09 Mar 2005 16:05 - 1723 of 10502

Scrips - Have you any stats on how many mins on average it takes to score the first goal. (many factors need to be taken into account)? sorry if this seems a dumb Q! I've been taking note of the odds of 'correct score' 0-0 0-1 1-0 the odds seem to fall at a faster rate after (20 mins) with no score. tia ...

Copper - 09 Mar 2005 18:00 - 1724 of 10502

Odds on Liverpool 1st goalscorer one is BACK @ 25, LAY @ 90 is this right??
if i lay at 90 say 2 will i get 90x cash back if that person does not score 1st??

Kayak - 09 Mar 2005 18:05 - 1725 of 10502

No. If he does not score first you will get 2. If he does score first you will have to pay 90x2 or 180. This is obvious if you think the person on the other side of the transaction has backed 2 at 90, i.e. will lose 2 or gain 180 depending on the result.

Copper - 09 Mar 2005 18:08 - 1726 of 10502

Didn't think it was right but just wanted to make sure, thanks

TPO - 09 Mar 2005 19:22 - 1727 of 10502

In the Arsenal match, am I right in thinking the only chance of extra time is if the score is 3-1 (so that there are the same number of home & away goals when the two matches are added together) ?

Fundamentalist - 09 Mar 2005 19:24 - 1728 of 10502

TPO

spot on - lets hope it doesnt come to that - a clear 4-0 win will do for lol

TPO - 09 Mar 2005 19:37 - 1729 of 10502

Excellent that means I've just guaranteed myself a couple of percent profit after commission whatever happens using the qualify and correct scores market.

The opportunity was slipping fast, so I had to go for it and hope my maths was correct.

chartist2004 - 09 Mar 2005 19:37 - 1730 of 10502

Cooper - you can check and 'make sure' by clicking on SETTINGS then tick the boxes then click on SAVE then you will be able to see how much you will make/loose by laying/backing or what ever! This the third time we have posted info 4 you on this subject:o)!!!

Fundamentalist - 09 Mar 2005 19:39 - 1731 of 10502

Just been looking at the various prices on the Arsenal game Pizarro 13.0 to score first looks a huge price (hate to admit it mind) - also think the price on 2.5 goals or more at 2.06 is bigger than i expected

Scripophilist - 09 Mar 2005 19:41 - 1732 of 10502

chartist - 38 mins but this varies by match. The standard deviation is 25 mins.

Scripophilist - 09 Mar 2005 19:50 - 1733 of 10502

Fundy the Arsenal match is the highest rated for goals and most likely home win according to my stats.

Don't have my spreadsheet to hand else I would throw some more stats around.

I have been at the hospital this afternoon for a check on my eyes. They dropped something in them and I can't see a damn thing now. Big mistake to drive here so have drifted into town for something to eat and to find a pub with the match on. Hopefully I will be able to see well enough to drive home a bit later.

Fundamentalist - 09 Mar 2005 19:55 - 1734 of 10502

Scrip

leave the car, have a few beers and get a cab home lol

good to see the nhs as good as ever "been at the hospital this afternoon for a check on my eyes. They dropped something in them" - nothing sharp i hope

not a good start at all, struggling to keep the ball and bayern are pressing a lot - viera needs to control midfield for us to have a chance

Fundamentalist - 09 Mar 2005 20:05 - 1735 of 10502

We're supposed to be at home
we're supposed to be at home

lol

not in the game at all, already drifted from 1.97 to 2.34

Fundamentalist - 09 Mar 2005 20:12 - 1736 of 10502

Munich starting to look heavily overpriced
