Please report bugs and enhancements (BUGS)

andy.lovell - 04 Nov 2002 11:26

If you're having any problems, or want to suggest some improvements, please post below!

Level2 changes
In the last few weeks we've needed to implement some code changes to make us compliant with the LSE's rules on the access of Level2 data.

The following requirement is now in place:
You can only use 1 program on 1 computer to access Level2 on MoneyAM using a single username.

This means that you are able to view as many Level2 windows using any one particular browser, or program, that you wish, however you will not be able to use both Firefox and Internet Explorer at the same time (the same goes for using Quote Tracker or TradeSeeker at the same time as viewing it using a web browser)

If you find you're being logged off of MoneyAM's Level2 with the message 'you've logged on from another location' then check the above and make sure you're not running any other programs at the same time before reporting this as a bug.

PeterG - just a few questions about your streaming problem:

1) What browser/version are you using
2) What version of Windows/other operating system are you using?
3) Are you behind a firewall?
4) Does this problem occur all the time, or intermittently?

thanks
Ian Penning (MoneyAM)

My first look at this site - and it looks good.

I guess this has been mentioned above (can't be bothered to trawl through all the posts) but I think it's essential to have the option to display INTRADAY CHART DATA over several days. E.g. choice of 1,2,3, 5 and 10 days worth of 1,3,5,15,30, and 60 minute data would be great. The 10 day option would also give you a small competitive ADVANtage over a certain other site I could mention...

A cetain US site (only $15 per month) gives you all this and allows you to roll back over several YEARS. Now that would be something.

Hi Ian,

I've created two stockwatches - "banks" with 6 epics, and "indices" with a huge list of epics that Mike (Bullshare) provided on one of the threads today.
The problem seems to be associated only with the indices stockwatch - is the list too long? Once I get that stockwatch on screen the only way I can get out of it seems to be to close the browser down and start again.

To answer your questions:
(1) IE 5 and (2) Win 98 (yep, I know...)
(3) I have the free version of Zone Alarm but it hasn't caused any hassle so far with MoneyAM
(4) As I said above, it seems to affect only the "big" stockwatch, but so far it's done it every time I open that one.

[added on edit] The indices stockwatch has about 40 epics. It certainly seems to slow things down a lot...

Thanks for all the bugs and suggestions(fonts, colours, intraday timescales, back to list, buy tupperware etc etc). All are on the fix or to do list. Had a few new faces join us today so a bit of load. Hurrah.

Later this week we are going to put in all the fancy shining new kit( so speeds should increase).

The Priest - 16 Dec 2002 18:14 - 180 of 7315

Clicked onto Stock Watch page, set up a stock to watch, set the columns ie EPIC, name, bid, offer etc, hit continue and the page froze...still have Explorer working (ie6 on Win 98) but that page stil won't respond.

PeterG - 16 Dec 2002 18:25 - 181 of 7315

Ian, re post 177 above - I just managed to get out of my Indices screen using the Bulletin Boards button. Perhaps it's just a load-related issue?

bristolbaz - 16 Dec 2002 18:54 - 182 of 7315

Don't forget the UN-edit button!!!

Dead Cat Bounce - 16 Dec 2002 18:55 - 183 of 7315

I'd like to report a bug please. A virus, known as Poison Dwarf, seems to have been let loose on the site. Expect imminent self destruction.

And a request please. When I press the "More" button at the bottom of the thread, after the screen refreshes I find I am back at the initial post and have to scroll down to the last post I read. Can the default be to find yourself at the last read post, not the thread's initial post?

I agree with Haystack/Martini/Big Al/et al re the stockwatch display being harder to read than at *****. (I appreciate that's probably already been taken onboard but wanted my moan included). Especially as, with no limit on list length, the column titles can disappear off the top of the screen and there is then insufficient column-contrast to quickly identify which is which among a broad sea of numbers. Personally I would prefer the bid and offer columns to be emphasised more than all others column contents, but I appreciate that is just me. Any prospect of being able to customise column order or column emphasis?

Mr Euro - 16 Dec 2002 19:36 - 185 of 7315

Main screen - total posts = less than number read.

lesk - 16 Dec 2002 21:09 - 186 of 7315

not sure if this is a bug.. but, I shortcutted direct to the BB and it shows ALL of the posts, and I thought oooh! loads of responses to threads. so i clicked on one of the ones I was interested in, then it asked me to log in, got into the thread... and all the posts had gone... of course it was reading the unread posts because I hadn't logged in... silly me...!!! is that a bug??? no probably not... well it's been a HARD day.... :@)

Haystack - 16 Dec 2002 21:24 - 187 of 7315

I think it is the lack of a login method. It is assumed that people will come in by the home page. In fact people will bookmark the stockwatch or BB pages. The journo stuff on the home page is lost as most people won't read it. A button to take you to the journo stuff would be useful and a defined login method.

lesk - 16 Dec 2002 21:32 - 188 of 7315

Haystack - you could be right.. :@)

Bullshare.... on the personal bit... when you click on someones alias... if they have an email address could you add a button to offer the user to 'add this person to your personal email list' as the chances are if you email a person once, god forbid... you might want to do it again and it seems silly to hunt for a post to click on them again to contact... :@)

A bit of work there for the backroom boys..... :@).

Bullie

When you work on the portfolio section a usefull addition would be the ability to include shorts. Mainly of use to Swing and Position traders but a facility not offered on other sites.

Bullshare - 16 Dec 2002 21:59 - 190 of 7315

Juzzle. go into Edit watchlist and you can sort column order, also click on any column and it will sort the content. Colour and fonts will be made bigger and brighter.

Lesk. Not to sure about the e mail thing , we will have a look. Also, if you are not logged in it will show you all posts as unread, it cannot recognise you.

Sputnik. Shorts will be available in the portfolio. Portfolio should be out on test we hope later this week

Mike

This afternoon I set up a watchlist, but couldn't edit apparently whilst data was streaming. Have been able to at this time of night and chosen the data I wish. May try to edit it during trading tomorrow, but might be a bug there.

Also, on watchlist, added IXIC and SP500. Mid appears correct, but chg and % don't register. INDU seems fine however.

qwento - 16 Dec 2002 23:07 - 192 of 7315

Hi folks. I am very impressed at the amount of stuff working here given the short development time - keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing the streaming data in operation tomorrow.

I have not had time to plough through all of this thread so apologies if I am repeating a known bug. I have found that if I go to stockwatch and then attempt to go elsewhere on the site I get no response from the server - on one occasion the browser gave up altogether and stopped responding - the logout procedure does work however and if I log-in again everything is fine until I go back to stockwatch.

One of the major attractions of ADVFN as far as I am concerned is the readibility of the monitor, trades and level 2 screens. For instance, with trades the separation of buys/sells into two distinct columns is a real bonus - not quite so important for SETS stocks, but with SEAQ to get an instant idea of current sentiment it is excellent. I choose to continue subscribing to ADVFN uncontended level 2 even though I get level2 through GNI simply because it is so readable - when you have 4 monitors cluttered with data it is essential in my book to be able to see at a glance the current state of play.

BTW - I have not had the opportunity of checking out Level 2 yet, but there is one BIG thing on my wish list which ADFVN does not handle - when displaying only a certain percentage of the SETS order book an option to show the volume of buy/sell orders ONLY for the given percentage would be excellent !

Big Al - 16 Dec 2002 23:12 - 193 of 7315

qwento - I've also had problems today trying to go back to the BB from watchlists. Things tend to freeze. On 1 occasion I had to shut down and start again.

MightyMicro - 17 Dec 2002 00:46 - 194 of 7315

Folks: this is why we have Beta test with software systems. Thanks very much for all the input, it is immensely useful and the software engineering team appreciate your taking the time out to find and tell us of problems.

Much of this didn't happen when we tested the site in house -- some things simply have to be field tested. Thanks for helping us do our job properly.

Derek (IST and MoneyAM)
PS:I'll buy you all a drink some day.

MM,

Some threads, (including this one), have a total of messages, and a greater total UNREAD!

Small thing I know, but just thought I would point it out.
