Any punters living in Birmingham Area interested in a Pie, Pint and jaw, one evening in a pub in Birmingham area.
Personally interested in small time investing(gambling), developing an appetite for CFDs. Also developing an interest in Charting or TA.

Stan - The big wok is good value for the city centre. Even better value is Wing Wah Restaurant at Nechells but again a little taxi ride out of the city.

Jeez, what's with this lot. Birmingham, the curry capital of Britain and here we all are talking about the Chinese. In any British high street, now Indian is all you can get for a sit down meal! Look at what MAM chose for their Xmas do, even in London Town..........! Try Smethwick.

.

Stan - 06 Dec 2005 16:42 - 178 of 1427

I think It's a case of someone with up to date local knowledge on the subject.

....Fred still doing research as we speak I expect -:)

55011 - 06 Dec 2005 17:14 - 179 of 1427

Yes, indeed Stan. I just hope he is doing the right sort of research.........

Wolverhampton would be nearer home for you. Or what is that place midway with a station, Sandwell and Dudley Parkway?

Another thought. My local Sainsbury (this is not a buy/sell recommendation) is forever flogging off those ready made up Indian meals for two or four. We could always lay in a couple of those and resort to Fred's kitchen. On the other hand the local fishmonger - a rare thing round here - had some massive pieces of Skate on his slab. Might go well when curried. A couple of gallons of Home Brew and we'll be just fine...........

Now Fred has been trying to sort out his IP The Bs I think were down for hours. Quite frightening. Must out stop losses on all holdings. All the suggestions are feasible, may even consider Wing Yip. Have to check if it hasn't been converted to a Polish restaurant.

Let you know later.

If I get back.

Kivver - 07 Dec 2005 00:27 - 181 of 1427

Consider a wholesalers eh, oh i see to get the ingredients, then cook a meal.

55011 - 07 Dec 2005 09:07 - 182 of 1427

Kivver, Fred is noted for his skill with a French Tart........

55011 - 07 Dec 2005 09:08 - 183 of 1427

.........or so he tells us!

Fred1new - 07 Dec 2005 14:16 - 184 of 1427

I have found a suitable place for 55011 in LadyPool Road. Stan, we can leave 55011 and perhaps pick him up later.

There are a couple of "original" balties near there. Suppose to be good. Try our luck out.

If everybodies happy other wise it is Fish and chips and curried flavoured Ketchup.

Stan - 07 Dec 2005 14:23 - 185 of 1427

Sounds good to me.

Kivver - 07 Dec 2005 14:30 - 186 of 1427

Saleems is a cracker and King of the Baltis one on the Ladypool Road. My Fav good old fashioned Balti House is Punjab Paradise which appears to have moved from Moseley to Ladypool Road. Just watch where you park your cars lads.

55011 - 07 Dec 2005 14:57 - 187 of 1427

Wheels at risk or the whole lot. Better check the policy, then............

Stan - 07 Dec 2005 15:08 - 188 of 1427

Never had this trouble In Brick Lane as I remember...... mind you that was a few years back now.

Fred1new - 07 Dec 2005 15:32 - 189 of 1427

I might pay somebody to take my car away. Before I buy a new car the old one has to fall apart.

Stan - 07 Dec 2005 19:25 - 190 of 1427

Juat to say that tonight on C4 at 8pm the River Cottage fella will be stopping off In Birmingham where he looks for a definitive recipe for curried goat!.....Ladypool Road perhaps? :)-

Fred1new - 08 Dec 2005 00:08 - 191 of 1427

Baa!!

mg - 08 Dec 2005 12:18 - 192 of 1427

Wrong continent Stan - for curried goat he'll be going to Handsworth/Lozells - generally a Caribbean dish. Thereagain, there's a tasty Caribbean restaurant on Bristol St. - not that far to walk - just a bit further than the Chinese Quarter.

Good to see a few Brummies on this thread. Can't get my head around you looking for a chinese though - Brum is the Balti capital of the world !!! Would suggest the one I go to most Fridays but it's a bit out in the sticks for you city centre types.

Punjab Paradise good choice - out in the Balti Qurter - but you'll need transport from the Anchor. If not there are at least another 50 to choose from - Ladypool Road/Stoney Lane ;) Up-market is Royal Al-Faisals - but not as good IMHO as most of the rest.

Some posh gits around here as well - Shimla Pinks is for corporate bank accounts and not "proper" balti - no flock wall paper and plastic tables/tablecloths.

Best food/value are the Bangladeshi balti houses - need to search them out - as most/many in the Balti Quarter are Pakistani.

Get Andy Munroe's Balti Guide - about the 10th edition by now - got my own signed first edition 'cos I used to be part of his "testing crew" back in the 80s - before he went all posh and quoted in the Sunday colour supplements.

55011 - 08 Dec 2005 13:37 - 193 of 1427

mg,

Fred began by looking for a Balti. He's scoured the W. Midlands. He's tried all the alternatives. Down to just a lack of focus I think. Something to do with the maidens in Small Heath? Mebbe they frighten him off......

Fred1new - 08 Dec 2005 13:44 - 194 of 1427

I have found 3 goood ones!!!!

55011 - 08 Dec 2005 13:58 - 195 of 1427
