ZOO DIGITAL, Groundbreaking Technology. (ZOO)

goldfinger - 30 Jun 2003 10:37

DVD EXTRA, the technology that should see this company through to profits and a very bright future.
DVD-Extra

During the year the Group accelerated its development of a revolutionary
authoring software for producing interactive DVD-Video discs that will play on
any standard consumer DVD player. We applied for and received a SMART grant
award of 188,000 from the Department of Trade and Industry to assist with the
research and development. DVD-Extra unlocks the hidden interactive capabilities
that exist in every player, and allows developers to produce titles that exhibit
many of the properties of multimedia CD-ROM on a standard, unmodified, DVD
player.

ZOO's principal offering is a product for authoring interactive DVD-Video discs
called DVD-Extra Studio. This tool operates in a similar way to multimedia
authoring products that are designed for creating CD-ROM applications for PC and
Macintosh, but produces DVD-Video disc images as its output. It performs a
similar function to so-called DVD authoring products that are designed
specifically for creating DVD-Video discs, but due to the patent-pending
authoring method it employs, it offers substantial cost savings for companies
that are involved in the production of DVDs and also enables more sophisticated
functionality to be developed.

ZOO will license DVD-Extra Studio to multimedia developers and Compression and
Authoring facilities. Charges will be levied on a pay-per-use basis, such that
customers will pay a fee to ZOO for each project that uses DVD-Extra Studio.

The Group has applied for patents to protect the core DVD-Extra technology and
is continuing to further develop and protect its intellectual property
worldwide.

Outlook

Following the successful fundraising of 1.5m gross through the share placing
which was completed on 2nd June 2003 the Group looks forward to positive
progression. The portfolio of products is expanding, with a focus on the
development of our own intellectual properties. The board believes that the
combination of publishing low risk licensed product and in-house own brands
together with the huge potential of DVD-Extra Studio places the Group in an
excellent position for a move to profitability and significant future growth.

The Group plans to exploit the DVD-Extra technology internationally and has
established an Early Adopter Programme consisting of around twenty companies
including Technicolor, Warner and Comchoice, leading to the first commercial
release of the product within twelve months. We believe that the uniqueness of
DVD-Extra and the filing of international patents will allow ZOO to build and
maintain significant differentiation over other authoring tool providers.

azhar - 28 Jan 2005 08:03 - 178 of 332

A nice start to the morning already 2+% up.

Dynamite - 28 Jan 2005 08:12 - 179 of 332

Azhar..I stand corrected...just going from memory. The time to buy some more will be when some momentum gets behind Zoo, then you should get your money back and make a profit.
Diana

azhar - 28 Jan 2005 08:22 - 180 of 332

Not selling for couple of yrs Di.. good things to come yet. Always invested for the longterm which is the reason why I still bought when they were at their peak.

Dynamite - 28 Jan 2005 09:07 - 181 of 332

Agreed great things to come with Zoo but you have it the wrong way round. Buy low sell high. When they went down you should have cut your losses and bought back again low. Mind you I did what you did with DDD but made it all back on the recent DDD surge.

Hi Diana and Azhar

Nice cosy chat going on here so sorry to break in! That was my 25K to get my foot in the door; the fact that it resulted in a mark-up in price of 0.25 shows again how responsive the sp of this share is. Helpful to have the background: it would appear that they have made a killing this Xmas and the licence revenues should be flowing in; helpful to have the March year-end becuase it will give two year ends effectively this year which will prove the trend of finances. I like the licence aspect because, like SEO royalties, it is recurring income (I assume). Its tricky convincing yourself to sell when the price is falling. I think the key thing is to ask the question whether the price has got too far ahead of itself. That may be the case with PDX so I have come out on the basis that there is no support level established in the charts and there are clearly worries about the results; if I'm wrong I can get back in. Its the 3:1 upside to downside principle. Propose to build up a strong position in ZOO: the right vibes, Diana!

Exactly Eric...this is another share that has 'passion'. Good news will not be long in coming and then watch this baby fly, it will be past 21p if news is really good. I have two lots of Zoo and as soon as it starts to gain momentum I shall get some more. Welcome abroad another great ride.

dynamite,

i dont think you will get zoo results till about june
as they are reporting up to 31st march,it takes a couple of months to audit usually, june 2004 were not reported till september,

EWRobson - 28 Jan 2005 14:01 - 185 of 332

akel

They have said that they will publish 12 month results, I believe; these will be unaudited and should therefore be available by March. Anyone know anymore?

Eric

Dynamite - 28 Jan 2005 14:06 - 186 of 332

Akel ...you are right I had it in my head that it was March. Eric they did say they would publish 12months too but I suspect at the same time as 15 months. However, hopefully Zoo will give some sort of positive update before results.
Diana

EWRobson - 28 Jan 2005 14:25 - 187 of 332

Diana

There is a precedent for presentation of 12 month figures. ASOS made the same switch to March, involving a 12-month period last year. Their January trading statement said: " an unaudited announcement of results for the 12 months to 31st December 2003 will be made on 20th February 2004". This may be easier for a retial company. If no-one knows the answer it may be worth checking with the company as it could well affect investment strategy.

azhar - 28 Jan 2005 22:21 - 190 of 332

A nice blue finish for the week-end :-))

EWRobson - 28 Jan 2005 22:37 - 191 of 332

Really glad to have invested in this share. My labrador, Honey, is also pleased because of the Zoo connotation; she makes enough noise in setting out on walks for a zoo. Plan to build up a good stake. Blue Index do CFDs on a multiple of four so I'll have a few of those, as well.

DVD development tool, DVD-EXTRA STUDIO, has been selected by Freestyle New Media Group as the cornerstone of a new service promoting the use of interactive DVD as a powerful and innovative marketing communications channel.

Freestyle is a leading new media agency which specialises in helping clients to optimise their digital marketing strategies by using technology to open up new channels.

Ranked by Marketing magazine as one of the UKs top 25 new media agencies, Freestyle has already used the power of DVD-EXTRA STUDIO to create two interactive DVDs for Land Rover a world first in the automotive industry. Working closely with ZOOtech, Freestyle created these interactive DVDs as an integral part of the global marketing strategy to support the launch of the award-winning All-New Land Rover Discovery 3.

ZOOtech, the developers of DVD-EXTRA STUDIO, and Freestyle will work together on joint business development opportunities within the corporate marketing communications sector through a branded interactive DVD initiative from Freestyle to be announced shortly.
