FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Claret Dragon - 18 May 2015 17:46 - 17750 of 21973

Dow stuck in treacle at these levels.

cynic - 18 May 2015 17:55 - 17751 of 21973

i too have no index positions at the moment

cynic - 19 May 2015 14:44 - 17752 of 21973

bit slow off the mark, so easily missed out when dow started to drop, but have just placed a small short at 1264.5 ...... hopefully not too bad a call, but we'll see

Claret Dragon - 19 May 2015 15:25 - 17753 of 21973

Had a touch first thirty this morning on FTSE 100.

Need some news as there is no movement at all on Dow.

cynic - 26 May 2015 15:56 - 17755 of 21973

bugger!

Clunk , there go the indicies and oil ..

cynic - 26 May 2015 16:10 - 17757 of 21973

watching to see if dow will fall to 18,000 ..... barely 40 points above now
if so, shall def take a long

cynic - 26 May 2015 16:21 - 17758 of 21973

perhaps rashly, long at 18,030.4

========

and as i'm about to go home, out with a little profit at 18,063.6

cynic - 26 May 2015 18:15 - 17759 of 21973

and back in again long at 18,016.4

Chris Carson - 26 May 2015 20:02 - 17760 of 21973

Chris Carson - 26 May 2015 20:10 - 17763 of 21973

jimmy b - 27 May 2015 10:30 - 17765 of 21973

cynic do you never have a go at oil ? every time it's got hammered like yesterday i have gone long (only small beer on this one ) and it always bounces back .

cynic - 27 May 2015 10:34 - 17766 of 21973

never, nor forex as neither are anything about which i have any understanding at all .... along with most of my other investments

cynic - 27 May 2015 14:55 - 17767 of 21973

long dow from 18,110 :-)

jimmy b - 27 May 2015 16:44 - 17768 of 21973

Your in the money !

cynic - 27 May 2015 16:45 - 17769 of 21973

confess i've had a seriously good run with the indices, and even with a few stocks, for the last 8/10 weeks

perhaps after being hammered so often, i've at last learnt to have a little nibble and then banked a respectable profit on a regular basis
