Lambykins's Dutch Coffee House - ADULTS ONLY (LAMB)

Spaceman - 28 Jan 2005 23:56

CLOSED - THANKS to all customers for the last few years

Socrates - 15 Aug 2007 10:10 - 17810 of 24230

The Chinese curse rears its head once more:

"May you live in interesting times".

Bluelady - 15 Aug 2007 10:16 - 17811 of 24230

Socrates, I am probably going to regret asking you this, but you said I should live dangerously.......please explain why it's a Chinese curse to live in interesting times?

optomistic - 15 Aug 2007 10:21 - 17812 of 24230

Blue what a lovely idea, one sweetener and milk please.

Bluelady - 15 Aug 2007 10:25 - 17813 of 24230

No problem optomistic.

Socrates - 15 Aug 2007 10:35 - 17814 of 24230

Bluelady, the Chinese origin is doubtful but oft quoted. The saying is widely thought to be American in origin but based on a Chinese proverb where the context of "interesting" is believed to refer to turbulent or dangerous times. There is a Chinese proverb which loosely translates to "better to be a dog in a peaceful time than be a man in a chaotic period."

If you need any more information I'll ask my old mate Confucious, I'm sure he will have something wise to impart.

Bluelady - 15 Aug 2007 10:40 - 17815 of 24230

Socrates, interesting, interesting and again I say interesting, lol. My husband uses the word interesting when he is being
diplomatic about something of which he is not entirely certain whether he likes it or not and doesn't wish to offend!!!

Socrates - 15 Aug 2007 10:43 - 17816 of 24230

Now that is interesting!

stockbunny - 15 Aug 2007 10:44 - 17817 of 24230

Tea is however more interesting especially when taken with a danish - anyone else want some?

Socrates - 15 Aug 2007 10:46 - 17818 of 24230

I'll have some, and a tea and danish, please.

stockbunny - 15 Aug 2007 10:55 - 17819 of 24230

3 + 4 Socs......and tea and a danish
;>)

JStratford - 15 Aug 2007 10:56 - 17820 of 24230

Very interesting in here... you learn something interesting every day... shutting up now!

Yes please Bunny. Danish sounds lovely.

Bluey, Are you implying those of us of an adult nature aren't allowed to eat smarties? ;-)

PS Good book Interesting Times.

Socrates - 15 Aug 2007 11:12 - 17821 of 24230

Why does my mobile always seem to need charging up. Captain Kirks communicator never gets charged but always seems to work.

Bluelady - 15 Aug 2007 12:38 - 17822 of 24230

J Stratford, knowing that cobber is an adult and you are also one does actually surprise me that there are at least two adults who like smarties enough to buy/eat them......however, I was more interested in knowing why you suddenly had a partiality in buying/eating smarties ;0)

KEAYDIAN - 15 Aug 2007 12:39 - 17823 of 24230

Morning all.

stockbunny - 15 Aug 2007 12:43 - 17824 of 24230

Socs maybe you use it too much? ;>)
Keaydian you're 39 minutes late for morning ;>)

JStratford - 15 Aug 2007 12:50 - 17825 of 24230

Lunch anyone?

Bluey.. I'm not interested in eating smarties per se - only in buying them. And no I haven't got a three year old I don't know about.. at least not as far as I know ;-)

stockbunny - 15 Aug 2007 12:56 - 17826 of 24230

Smarties on toast please - minus the cartons ;>)

JStratford - 15 Aug 2007 12:57 - 17827 of 24230

Sorry Bunny. Still can't find any smarties so unless someone else can deliver them?

stockbunny - 15 Aug 2007 13:11 - 17828 of 24230

That's OK sardines on toast I think will fill the spot for me - anyone else?

Bluelady - 15 Aug 2007 13:13 - 17829 of 24230

J Stratford, you can get a packet of 5 tubes of smarties for 1/1.50 from any supermarket. Tescos are doing a special promotion 3 for 3 at the moment. Just let me know where you live, I'll deliver them myself? Actually that is the reason why I wrote buying/eating as you never implied you wanted to eat them.

I prefer ferrero rocher myself but each to their own taste in chocolate ;0).
