How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Hi Scrip,
I see that you recently held a Global Day coarse in London, have you any plans for another, if so where and when???
I also note that you are one of the quest speakers at the next Money Am traders day on 8th April
I am curious to know if there is a great difference in content (apart from price LOL) between Money am day and a Global day.

Harlosh - 11 Mar 2005 15:52 - 1791 of 10502

Wishful thinking BP?

Piptrader - 11 Mar 2005 16:15 - 1792 of 10502

B-P - the difference is about 8 hours' worth :-))

Pip

and a couple of hundred quid lol

had a cracking afternoon on the horses - hope all have done well

did anyone watch the 2.50 at Leicester on ATR - id love to know what price Gadsar, the winner was as it jumped the last, im guessing it would have been 100+

Fundamentalist - 11 Mar 2005 17:12 - 1794 of 10502

Anyone watch the last race at Leicester

front 3 well in front coming to the last - the winner decided at the last second to run out and not jump the fence, took the horse in second with it into the white fencing beside the fence and nudged the third placed horse unseating its rider. The horse that was 4th, and quoted at 1000 prior to the fence ran out winning by a distance

Scripophilist - 11 Mar 2005 17:13 - 1795 of 10502

B-P, I think you may have your answer. For a short presentation which is unpaid I guess you may expect less than a full days course.

Scripophilist - 11 Mar 2005 17:14 - 1796 of 10502

The horses have been good today lots of good prospects and some nice moves.

Leicester seems to be the place today. 15:05 Nousayri, nowhere to be seen and all the front three fall at the last. Matched at 250-1.

Scripophilist - 11 Mar 2005 17:16 - 1797 of 10502

LOL, Fundy. I saw it, I guess that's why I haven't found a decent in running strategy yet. Still working on it.

Scripophilist - 11 Mar 2005 17:30 - 1798 of 10502

Not been a good week for favourites at all has it? Odds on faller at the last race as well.

Scrip

I think the biggest problem with in running is that the prices move too quickly and are quite unstable. I have had a fair bit of success backing horses which are sound jumpers and will be in the shake up and then lay them off about half a mile out - ive also used it to get out of jail when i havent closed a bet before the off

B-P - 11 Mar 2005 17:50 - 1800 of 10502

OK. Thanks for the replies everyone
Script ----- Will there be another Global Training day this year???

Scripophilist - 11 Mar 2005 17:58 - 1801 of 10502

It's under discussion at the moment but that's all. Drop me an email and I can keep your informed of any progress. My email is at the top of this thread.

Back again.

Interesting forum chat on Betfair. Worth popping in and reading if you have the chance.

One snippet right at the end is worth highlighting.

"We're just coming to the end of a winter of endless impenetrable 12-14 runner races, with long priced favourites and televised, for the most part, on 5 second delayed ATR. Clearly this suits the bookies but these races don't play as well as others on betfair and attract much less turnover.

Do you feel that Betfair should be more pro-active in trying to influence the racing programme? At the moment it seems to be developing solely to suit the bookies.

Bert: Hi DF. We speak to the Jockey Club and BHB on this issues and may have some influence."

Hope you all backed Arsenal at kick off

Fundamentalist - 12 Mar 2005 12:27 - 1807 of 10502

Couldnt have happened to a nice guy lol

just backed arsenal to win the cup at 3.3 before the red card was produced

Harlosh - 12 Mar 2005 12:28 - 1808 of 10502

Unfortunately not Steve.

Scripophilist - 12 Mar 2005 12:33 - 1809 of 10502

Thought the first goal was a bit soft but well taken. Isn't Diouf a complete and utter idiot. Does anybody like him? Probably not even the Bolton fans now?
