Good evening all. The sounds of explosions and whizz bangs seem to have died down now so I suppose the war is over until next November.

Sad about the train crash, I do hope the casualty figures are not too high. I especially feel for those people who were on their way home from work and will face the prospect of catching a train to work again Monday morning. Somewhat nervous situation I can imagine.

STORMCALLER - 06 Nov 2004 22:13 - 17919 of 23498

Socs,
Good evening, still plenty of noise here, probably for another couple of hours, despite poor weather. Bad news indeed about the accident, although fortunately rare, they always involve so many people.

optomistic - 06 Nov 2004 22:33 - 17920 of 23498

Evening both, very quiet here too, this is a first! perhaps the new law has had effect and the local lads are finding it not so much fun setting their massive thuds off in their own back garden rather than in weelie bins, exhaust pipes, bus shelters and so on. Any fizz left? could do with a glass or two.

STORMCALLER - 06 Nov 2004 22:37 - 17921 of 23498

Evening opto,
I think I could be persuaded to crack a bottle and share it...cheers

optomistic - 06 Nov 2004 22:41 - 17922 of 23498

Cheers Stormy, looks like the Rooms have been deserted tonight. Choccie away and not a murmer from the rest of the girls. Must be roasting somewhere.

STORMCALLER - 06 Nov 2004 22:48 - 17923 of 23498

opto,
It has been quiet most of the day, weather not really the best to encourage party atmosphere though.

STORMCALLER - 06 Nov 2004 23:13 - 17924 of 23498

Golddog,

You have message!

Jeff

If you want better bait try bird's eyes - they seem to catch all the fish.

Good morning world from a very hot and sunny SA where there's barely a breath of wind [not true says mrs.lw!], no humidity, golf course is quiet.

Yesterday had a wonderful days racing at Kenilworth, C/Town; monetary v.good thanks to our trainer Glen Cotzen.

What shall I do today?
Read the Cape Argus me'thinks and a nice cup of dajeeling then a 'dip' in the pool [78 degrees], maybe a relaxing snooze and dream of Proteome Science returning to a couple of quid.

Then down to our newly built house and do a bit of cleaning in preparation for the marble acid sealers and cleaners this week.

Back for another 'dip',a glass or three of this years Villiera Sauvignon Blanc
[vineyard just down the drag] shower and ready for a trip to the Grand Roche Amphitheatre tonight to listen to a string quartet playing different stuff ie rock, pop, popular classics.

IT'S A BLOODY HARD LIFE

Hows it all hanging in dear old Blighty ?

Socrates - 07 Nov 2004 09:29 - 17928 of 23498

Good morning lw. You do seem to be having it tough out there. Misty grey morning here and nothing but wall to wall antique fairs for me to go to. Just been reading about our train crash near Newbury, sad event but fortunate only six died out of 300 passengers, could have been a lot worse.

Fundamentalist - 07 Nov 2004 09:33 - 17929 of 23498

Morning LW from a damp and dreary manchester where the wind is biting and the golf course also quiet (though due to sodden conditions).

A day spent packing boxes, reading the sunday papers (times and telegraph)

Fundamentalist - 07 Nov 2004 09:34 - 17930 of 23498

Morning socs

Socrates - 07 Nov 2004 10:24 - 17931 of 23498

Good morning Fundy.

little willie - 07 Nov 2004 10:51 - 17932 of 23498

Sad to hear your 'news'? Socs re crash, early days for reason/blame I suppose.
Was it the Great Western main liner to Bristol/Wales? Usedse to use that one, if so, a lot on my days in 'plod'.

Very sad and have often wondered just how the immeadiate relatives come out of something dreadful like that, how HM Gov compensates and subsequently looks after them in the long term. Don't suppose anyone worries too much until it happens to them.

Fundy..enjoy your day, always got more out of opening boxes even if I filled them in the first place? Weird or what?

Socrates - 07 Nov 2004 11:28 - 17933 of 23498

lw
It was the Paddington Plymouth line near to Newbury. A car apparently on a half barrier crossing hit by the train which was travelling at high speed. As you say, too early to identify why it happened.

Must go out now, back later for a late lunch.

little willie - 07 Nov 2004 15:41 - 17934 of 23498

Thanks Socs, checked it out on Telegraph.com, rail accidents are a little to frequent for my liking; flying appears much safer, strange when you think about the mechanics/aerodynamics involved.

Antiques fairs...buying, selling, valuing or just mooching?

Cafe is empty so I'm orf to the quartet ensemble, whatever that is!

Wife tells me I'm a Phillistine but I told her I'm C of E.

daves dazzlers - 07 Nov 2004 16:10 - 17935 of 23498

Afternoon all, lots of stories in the newspapers,,bt.a/mks/bfp/ba/vod/etc,,,and thats just the light stuff,,cant wait for monday morning ..

Socrates - 07 Nov 2004 16:43 - 17936 of 23498

Good afternoon all. Just returned from a good mooch around Cheltenham and Malvern antique fairs. Managed to come away without remortgaging the house, I call that a good result.

Golddog - 07 Nov 2004 19:29 - 17937 of 23498
