How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Interesting forum chat on Betfair. Worth popping in and reading if you have the chance.

One snippet right at the end is worth highlighting.

"We're just coming to the end of a winter of endless impenetrable 12-14 runner races, with long priced favourites and televised, for the most part, on 5 second delayed ATR. Clearly this suits the bookies but these races don't play as well as others on betfair and attract much less turnover.

Do you feel that Betfair should be more pro-active in trying to influence the racing programme? At the moment it seems to be developing solely to suit the bookies.

Bert: Hi DF. We speak to the Jockey Club and BHB on this issues and may have some influence."

Thought the first goal was a bit soft but well taken. Isn't Diouf a complete and utter idiot. Does anybody like him? Probably not even the Bolton fans now?

Scripophilist - 12 Mar 2005 12:39 - 1810 of 10502

I went to a fight the other day and a football match broke out in between!

Fundamentalist - 12 Mar 2005 12:42 - 1811 of 10502

Scrip lol

pretty standard for Arsenal v Bolton these days

Bolton appear to be looking for the ref to even things up - could be a lot more to come

as for Diouf - the guy is a waste of space

stuartreece - 12 Mar 2005 12:42 - 1812 of 10502

Backed Arsenal at start of match couldn't believe how soon the goal came greened up straight away for over 50% profit. I needed it too, learned a couple of expensive lessons this week trying to be greedy. Have to finally accept a small guaranteed profit is better than a potentially much larger one at considerable risk.

Stuart

well done

Scripophilist - 12 Mar 2005 12:45 - 1814 of 10502

stuart well done - One addition to the London course I did add was the money management section but experiance tells me that the only real way to learn is through experiance.

Harlosh - 12 Mar 2005 12:47 - 1815 of 10502

A lesson we all learn I think.

Harlosh - 12 Mar 2005 12:50 - 1816 of 10502

Can't believe we only have two English matches today and a few hours apart too.

Scripophilist - 12 Mar 2005 12:51 - 1817 of 10502

Yes, Looking forward to Southampton putting United out of the cup!

Harlosh - 12 Mar 2005 12:53 - 1818 of 10502

After the performance of Uniteds last two games I wouldn't be surprised but I bet your not putting your money on it eh Scrip?

Scripophilist - 12 Mar 2005 12:56 - 1819 of 10502

United should be priced around 1.66 and I think they are around 1.60 at the moment. Smells like a draw to me to be honest. Man U can't afford to lose but are certainly the stronger side.

Scripophilist - 12 Mar 2005 13:01 - 1820 of 10502

This match deserves 10/10 for artisitic merit.

Fundamentalist - 12 Mar 2005 14:11 - 1821 of 10502

Freddie Ljundgberg - miss of the season !!!!!!
