FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

A bit of respite before weekend!!!

cynic - 01 Jul 2015 09:38 - 18031 of 21973

18019 looks to have been quite a good prediction, but it's always much easier when no money at risk

Is that right Tsipras now recommending a yes vote on sunday?
2517

cynic - 01 Jul 2015 16:53 - 18033 of 21973

tsipras brings a variation to the old adage about broker recommendations ......
when tsipras says yes he means no and when he says no he means i didn't really mean that

==============

safest to be neutral o'night

deltazero - 01 Jul 2015 22:17 - 18034 of 21973

yep - tsipras is a space cadet - that's for sure - off the radar! :-)

plenty of volatility between now and sunday

cynic - 02 Jul 2015 10:35 - 18035 of 21973

made a very quick few shillings before breakfast, but if i have any sense (questionable), then i'll steer clear for the rest of the day

deltazero - 02 Jul 2015 15:33 - 18036 of 21973

ha ha good to hear it - yep made a bit too today - going cautiously for the moment - agreed ref the sense :-)))) lol and ditto for myself!

Claret Dragon - 03 Jul 2015 09:45 - 18037 of 21973

Closed off for weekend. No point with Wall Street having the day off for Independence. Anyone taking a position going into close for Mondays open?

cynic - 03 Jul 2015 10:25 - 18038 of 21973

not bloody likely!
there'll be more than enough opportunity to lose money once the market re-opens!

deltazero - 03 Jul 2015 10:38 - 18039 of 21973

ha ha lol - i might but then again i have 2 pencils stuck up my nose and a pair of underpants on my head!! LOL

market today is a bit meaningless, but nevertheless worth taking note that FTSE has just slipped south through 6600

IG sunday indices will make interesting viewing!

cynic - 03 Jul 2015 15:56 - 18041 of 21973

The IG Greek Referendum binary is still strongly pointing to a ‘yes’ victory, and at 67% suggests that a number of Syriza ministers could well be stepping down next week

.

cynic - 04 Jul 2015 18:03 - 18043 of 21973

will markets crash on monday's open?
personally, i have no idea at all, and sod's law says they'll surge - and i don't think the referendum result will affect much either way

anyone else have a view?

cynic - 05 Jul 2015 09:19 - 18044 of 21973

IG Sunday Indices are quiet with FTSE showing +15 and DOW +9
Starting to look that the talk of earthquake volatility on Monday will be unfounded

cynic - 05 Jul 2015 15:18 - 18045 of 21973

now firmly south ..... both ftse and dow down about 100

cynic - 05 Jul 2015 18:32 - 18046 of 21973

NO looks to be the firm call now with indices down lots

deltazero - 05 Jul 2015 18:48 - 18047 of 21973

FANTASTIC! Tally bally ho Huzzah and hoooorahhhhh!!
:-D
'With 15% of votes counted, results from the Greek referendum on terms for an international bailout suggest a victory for the "No" camp.'

saaaarrrfffffffffffffff

cynic - 05 Jul 2015 18:53 - 18048 of 21973

dz - did you leave positions open over w/e? ....... if so, you were an awful lot braver than me, but very well done indeed

cynic - 05 Jul 2015 19:03 - 18049 of 21973

(Sunday) FTSE showing -150, and imo that's pretty much low enough
any disagreement?
