THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

To my mind, if your faith is strong, then you do not have a problem with it being questioned, in fact you should welcome it.
It shows that most Muslims follow their faith blindly, with many being brain washed from birth.
I feel that the same applies to many, if not most religious faiths.
For the record, I am atheist.

Years ago, I did try to join one of those religions where you all get naked and have lustful sex with each other, but was thrown out after only a couple of meetings after shouting my 'hail Marys at inappropriate times.

ExecLine - 04 Sep 2012 18:24 - 18121 of 81564

Apparently, these days you are either a 'Creationist' or an 'Evolutionist'.

Some Creationists believe the world is only 6,000 years old but they don't seem to want to explain how it just doesn't mention dinosaurs in the Bible.

Now, if the world was only 6,000 years old or so, I would have thought a mention of them would have definitely been in the Bible.

eg. "Adam was walking down the road and all of a sudden a Tyrannosaurus Rex stepped out and so Adam slayed it with a stone from his sling."

But it isn't and this is why I am an atheist and an 'Evolutionist' too.

greekman - 05 Sep 2012 07:38 - 18122 of 81564

Hi ExecLine,

I like the Adam an Tyrannosaurus Rex angle.
But you are correct as religions ignore what is 100% fact proven and yet fully without question accept what is not.
To me the story of Christ is just that, a story.
I believe that there probably was a person called Jesus who was a great orator and was put to deatth by crucifixion by the Romans.
I also believe that he was probably married and had children.
All this was the way of the world in those days (little changed in many countries), but what I find incredible is to believe that he was conceived by a virgin, (Mary and Joseph must have had a very strange marriage!) was killed, buried and came back from the dead.
Religions can do good for both the world and individuals, I suppose its all down to if you believe or not, but I think the harm religions do is far more than the good.
Religions must count as the cause of more deaths than any other single cause in the world, from wars to famines as famines are usually caused by fractions of religions, mainly tribal, obstructing the relief of such disasters.
Here endeth todays sermon.

Hmmmm - People can be fat yet fit, research suggests

People can be obese yet physically healthy and fit and at no greater risk of heart disease or cancer than normal weight people, say researchers.

The key is being "metabolically fit", meaning no high blood pressure, cholesterol or raised blood sugar, and exercising, according to experts.

Good post

Stan - 05 Sep 2012 09:58 - 18127 of 81564

E/L and G/M,

It turns out that the evils which have infested "some" religions are not confined to them, but are ones that can accompany any successful human institution.

Tanks,

"going to oxford sat and will meet you in shrewsbury soon ." Is that a threat or a promise? -):

Skinny,

Interesting subject, and will have a look at your link later.

greekman - 05 Sep 2012 10:12 - 18128 of 81564

Thanks Aldwick,

Funny how we often misunderstand some religions.

I always thought to become a member of the Moonies you had to have flashed at following motorists from the back of a bus.
Now I know different, as it appears you have to attend mass weddings for people who have never previously met and empty most of your worldly wealth into the leaders pockets.
Strange just how wealthy most leaders of religious sects become whilst they all preach piety and self denial.

The C of E are often pleading poverty, and yet they are one of the wealthiest organisations in the country.
The Church Commissioners, manage assets worth more than £4 billion on behalf of the Church of England, and made a return of 13.6% last year.
I appreciate that these organisations have to invest and hold a large amount of money in reserve, but surelly some of that £4,000,000,000 could go to repairs and the like.
I read not to long ago that the the church is desperate for funds and is in poverty.
I only wish I was that poor.

"Only a God can give a man a survival "tool" that he can use to create life an infinite amount of times, yet only allows him to use it for 3 minutes immediately before falling asleep."

Apparently, the origins of human beings are just a choice for you to decide, irrespective of the facts, and particularly so shortly before you embark on a career in Australian politics.

aldwickk - 05 Sep 2012 16:53 - 18131 of 81564

Eating organic food will not make you healthier, according to researchers at Stanford University, although it could cut your exposure to pesticides.

If it cut's your exposure to pesticides, then it must make you more healthier you Bunch of tossers

Stan - 05 Sep 2012 18:03 - 18132 of 81564

Pot and Kettle alert?

Fred1new - 05 Sep 2012 19:10 - 18133 of 81564

Alds.

"If it cut's your exposure to pesticides, then it must make you more healthier you Bunch of tossers"

Just back, but already see you are still writing the same sort of "tosh" as before I left.

Sweeping statements, which don't seem to me to be born out by facts.

Pesticides are not necessarily more harmful to man than a bottle of water.

(Some, unfortunately are a little more lethal to man, but not now used in "normal" food production which the British public are exposed to in this country.)

Told you, that I thought you needed help.

====================

Good to see the same old gang of mobsters are still in power with just a few less Mols.

I wonder what the men in the bunker will dream up for their next U-turns.

I think they should bring back Boris.

PS.

I do mean Boris Karloff, he would fit quite nicely in the present cabinet of horror stories.

I wonder what Cameron and Osborne’s will be remembered for when the history books are written.

Perhaps, they will still be on the third runways.

What a gutless pair they are.
