FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

cynic - 08 Jul 2015 16:57 - 18121 of 21973

that's very worrying, as much as anything else, because no reason known

cynic - 08 Jul 2015 17:13 - 18122 of 21973

the answer .....

The New York Stock Exchange halted trading in all securities as it addressed a computer malfunction and said it canceled all outstanding orders.

chinese cyber attack?
who knows

skinny - 08 Jul 2015 17:19 - 18123 of 21973

cnn posts .....

Homeland Security: 'No signs of malicious activity at this time' in computer problems at NYSE

deltazero - 08 Jul 2015 18:48 - 18125 of 21973

maybe china saw my post about them and decided to launch a cyber attack against nyse to even the score LOL

yep watching the dow with an eagle eye........do you have a spare pair of steel toecap boots knocking around :-)

deltazero - 08 Jul 2015 18:54 - 18126 of 21973

neighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh skinny lol

cynic - 08 Jul 2015 19:03 - 18127 of 21973

i'm wearing them as have had a stupid long :-)
working on the basis that market is much more likely to recover sharply than to drop when this computer nonsense is sorted

deltazero - 08 Jul 2015 20:36 - 18128 of 21973

gl cynic - wise move wearing them :-)

cynic - 08 Jul 2015 22:14 - 18129 of 21973

yup; got that one wrong old buddy :-(
but can't make an omelette without breaking eggs or somesuch :-)

deltazero - 08 Jul 2015 22:47 - 18130 of 21973

sorry to hear it but with a weekly dow range around 17800 - 17500 and a higher than norm avg caution needed of course just need to get on the right side so just bad luck - had a little nibble at the dax again this evening and made a few more shillings ; ftse may likely follow dax level movement tomorrow perhaps as dax seems to be hitting the trends earlier but that could change in an instant of course

i hope that was a small omelette in this case!

Claret Dragon - 09 Jul 2015 06:59 - 18131 of 21973

Very nimble yesterday until the glitch.

The Chinese, Greeks. What next?

cynic - 09 Jul 2015 09:36 - 18132 of 21973

good morning dz ...... i got lucky with a hefty bounce o'night so have halved my already small position for a minuscule profit ...... out of devilment, i'll let the remainder run

Claret Dragon - 09 Jul 2015 10:42 - 18133 of 21973

Green Day !!!!!!!!!!

deltazero - 09 Jul 2015 10:46 - 18134 of 21973

good morning cynic - pleased to hear it - quite expected it to bounce back the way things are so good stuff well done

deltazero - 09 Jul 2015 12:39 - 18135 of 21973

Claret Dragon - 09 Jul 2015 13:25 - 18136 of 21973

Jumped out of FTSE 100 Long too early.

cynic - 09 Jul 2015 14:18 - 18137 of 21973

still running that diddly dow long ....... have yet to decide when to bank .......

just banked at 17,732

if dow climbs to 17,800 and would be inclined to reverse as the greece issue is still to be resolved

deltazero - 09 Jul 2015 16:10 - 18138 of 21973

tough call that cynic i think the real answer is close when it is good for you

easy to do claret - as long as it is profit dont kick yourself too hard

the most difficult call is after this - it suggests more recovery as breezed past certain trend levels or is this a flash in the pan!

cynic - 09 Jul 2015 16:22 - 18139 of 21973

dz - per above, i have already banked ...... am now looking for a level from which to short

china is one problem, but closer to home, the greek issue is a very long way from being resolved ....... high volatility remains the order of the day

deltazero - 09 Jul 2015 16:31 - 18140 of 21973

ahhh misread - speed reading between screens lol
