How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

countrylife - if youve got something to say spit it out lol

anyone on the football this pm - made a nice few quid on blackburn (backed them midway through the 2nd half) - was out for the start of the newcastle game - may back the draw if it stays 0-0 for the next 10 mins or so - cant see it finishing 1-0

scrip - a quick question - what impact if any will the draw have on the outright winner market - i currently have a large profit on arsenal and am toying with greening up - will the odds change much if they draw Man Utd compared to drawing Blackburn - or is it too late in the comp for the draw to matter - theyve got to beat man utd to win it whether it be semi or final

Fundamentalist - 13 Mar 2005 17:56 - 1834 of 10502

"cant see it finshing 1-0" - shows how much i know lol

Scripophilist - 13 Mar 2005 20:19 - 1835 of 10502

Fundy, I have some open positions as well. The draw will affect the odds. The question you have to ask yourself is if Man U and Arsenal were drawn together what would be the likely match odds?

If you assume the current odds are correct then 2.42 & 2.92 leaves the draw at 4.00 which is probably a little over priced. Therefore I would expect the prices change a little but not much. I have some exposure ahead of the draw and I will probably let it run into the draw tomorrow.

Scrip

thanks for that

i have eliminated my exposure but left all the profit on one line - will re-evaluate after the draw - Blackburn would be nice!!!

Curious winner on the first race. Huge drifter WH radio had several listeners tip it. Drifted to 17's and romped home!!

Harlosh - 14 Mar 2005 14:25 - 1838 of 10502

Must say finding myself rather nervous of trading the races at the moment. Seems to be a lot of horses drifting then, having sucked punters in, the odds collapse. Costly if you get caught.

15:00 at Plumpton. Favorite was never in the lead but backed at 1.01, what on earth were people thinking about. I know he got close towards the end but was never in the lead.

Diego - 14 Mar 2005 16:33 - 1841 of 10502

Trying out the races. Backed Kyalami (Stratford 4.30) @ 3.9 and layed @ 3.8 to greenup.

Kayak, A legend in my own time? ;)

lol!

Scripophilist - 15 Mar 2005 09:04 - 1843 of 10502

Be aware of massive trading opportunities now that Cheltenham is upon us. Was a very profitably period last year.

Kayak - 15 Mar 2005 10:46 - 1844 of 10502

lol Scrip, just trying to help :-)

Fundamentalist - 15 Mar 2005 13:58 - 1845 of 10502

Nice of justified to have a big drift - nice trading start - now come on chilling place (both hats on today)

Scripophilist - 15 Mar 2005 14:00 - 1846 of 10502

First two races have been good and nearly 1.25m traded on the first at Cheltenham so far. Have you noticed the amount of money has made the market that much more steady?

Scripophilist - 15 Mar 2005 14:07 - 1847 of 10502

"now come on chilling place"

Maybe just double your trading capital on the next race then? ;-)

Fundamentalist - 15 Mar 2005 14:10 - 1848 of 10502
