Amazing - Baby birth shock for soldier on Afghanistan deployment

A British servicewoman has given birth to a baby boy in Afghanistan having not realised she was pregnant.

"Mother and baby are both in a stable condition," said the Ministry of Defence, following the birth on Tuesday in Camp Bastion, Helmand province.

The woman, a Royal Artillery gunner who has not been named by the MoD, only learned she was about to give birth after complaining of stomach pains.

The child was conceived before she arrived in Afghanistan in March.

Electric car money benefiting 'handful of motorists', MPs say

Government spending of £11m to encourage people to drive electric cars has benefited only a "handful of motorists", MPs have said.

They also warned the scheme was being used to subsidise second cars for more affluent households.

In a report, the Transport Select Committee questioned whether this represented a good use of public money.

The government offers grants of up to £5,000 towards the cost of plug-in cars in a bid to reduce carbon emissions.

New Apple maps app under fire from users

Inaccuracies and misplaced towns and cities in Apple's new map software have provoked anger from users.

In June Apple announced it would stop using Google Maps in favour of its own system, created using data from navigation specialist TomTom.

Apple is yet to comment on the complaints about the software, which comes already installed on the new iPhone.

TomTom said it provided only data and was not responsible for how it worked.

Philippines outlaws cybersex and 'cam girls'

The Philippines has outlawed cybersex and online sex video chat.

Cybersex involves women - "cam girls"- chatting and performing sexual acts in front of webcams for internet clients.

It is a growing industry in many parts of the world, and often young women and under-age girls are forced into it.

Anyone breaking the law faces a fine of 250,000 Philippine pesos ($6,000; £3,700) and a jail term of up to six months.

Nick’s recent conversion to the truth and humility reminds me of “I tawt I taw a pussycat creeping up on me”.

I believe the latter was the a No 1. I can’t imagine Nick making it again to No 1.

The economic figures over the next few months will show this.

Why can’t the tories swallow their pride and replace Osborne by Vince. At least he dosen’t have an understanding of the UK economic problems and may introduce some remedial actions.

Not only he "dosen't" have an understanding of the UK economic problems he also has a huge ego i.e. he thinks he is a clever clogs and knows it all. Put a pretty bird in front of him with a microphone and he will shoot himself - and his party - in the foot.

Vince Cable woul be a disaster. He is only tolerated as he would be more trouble out of the Cabinet.

Pink Floyd house sold blind at auction for £1.2m

The former north London home of the original band members of rock band Pink Floyd has been bought by a Singaporean developer who has not yet seen it.

Shivan Iswaran, who admitted not being a fan of the rock band, bought the Highgate house and the one next door for £1.2 million each.

Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright and Syd Barrett lived in the house in the 1960s.

Miss Iswaran said she would decide what to do with it once she saw it.

Even Menzies Campbell said only a week ago that Osborne should stay as Chancellor and he was doing a good job. Vince Cable has demonstrated quite a bit of bad judgement over the last year. There is not the slightest possibility that Osborne will be replaced.

At the moment the Libs are hanging on to the coalition and trying to save their own skins. Cameron is doing the same, talking big and acting small.

The Libs sold out on their basic principles and the Osborne and Cameron are posh boys, detached from pratical economic and social values. They would have been better sticking to PR. or headline grabbing.

Perhaps. Aschroft may bail them out again, but even he has become very quiet of late.

Cable is a menace. Just look at the way he was saying he would stop Murdoch getting control of Sky, when he should have been independent. He has also been caught secretly texting Milliband only a week ago. He is clearly a man of poor judgement and a loose canon. The rank and file of the Conservative party would not tolerate him. He fails to realise that he signed up to a coalition. His party is the junior party in that coalition. No wonder he is a member of "the silly party" as Max Hastings called them.

Cable was a Liberal at university, then switched to Labour. He failed to get selelected and elected. He then joined the new SDP. He then was absorbed into the combined party and that is where he remains. Looks like an opportunist who was desperate get elected somwhow. He is far too left wing to be of any use to anyone.

It makes no difference that Cable has an Economics background as he seems to have a left wing view and is probably a Keynsian that believes in a recession that you should pay people to dig holes and then just fill them in.

Nothing new from you in all that Right Wing "Con" Party/Government rhetoric H/S. Just because someone expressed things regarding Murdoch before Murdoch became a national scandal and that involved some at the very top in the "Con" Government, it's no wonder that you don't like him.

as we all well know to be a MP you have to be dishonest a good liar and a crook and a thief that about sums them up .and will do anything to get power .the house of commons are worse than 90% in prison.
