A police union leader has attacked David Cameron as the row continues over Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell's words to an officer.

The prime minister's tribute to the two police officers killed in Manchester was "hollow words", Metropolitan Police Federation chairman John Tully said.

Mr Tully said this was the opinion of "many of my colleagues".

A Downing Street source said the PM had made it clear "that he has the greatest respect for the police."

Number 10 has not yet commented on Mr Tully's words.

The old tories were supposed to be the party of Law and Order.

TANK - Don't confuse Police Officers on duty at Hillsborough that day, with the senior officers in charge. Two police woman were murdered this week, Camerons commiseration means jack shit, intended cuts to the Police Service will come at a heavy price for all of us.

I think the Mitchell "affair" is overcooked a little and there are very few on this thread who have not used or do use expletives , profanities, or curses etc. in private conversations. Whether it is in banter or carrying a degree of anger.

I think the public is getting a little to "prissy". But it points of Mitchell lack judgement and he should have known the police "union" and other political opponents would jump on him. Realising that his apology seems "brash" and leaves him open to the charge that he is not fit for purpose.


Another problem for the tories, is that Mitchell actions and "abuse" personifies, or characterises the attitude and conceit of the present hierarchy and leadership their party.

I was listening to a LBC phone in and a woman rang to say that her husband was a policeman at the palace of Westminster. She said that most MPs were very rude with the new ones the worst. The second worst were the Labour MPs who had a habit of clicking their fingers at an individual officer if they wanted to speak to them. It all seems to be a lot of fuss about nothing. People are getting far too sensitive. A a response to the islamic nonsense of the last few days we should deluge the media, youtube, magazines etc with anti mohammed comments and images to such an extent that there would be no target and no one to blame. It should continue on a dailly basis for years to come. when the extremists have become desensitized it might then be stopped.

TANK - Pretty obvious (even with your limited intelligence) that if the Police at this present time are having to prioritise response to calls such as BURGLARY that alarm bells should be ringing that not only are they undermanned now, but have been for a number of years. If you are unfortunate enough to have your car stolen or vandalised, be plagued by local yobs defecating in your front garden whatever even assaulted, or mugged you are automatically on a priority list. "An officer will be with you within a week sir" Slight exageration there I admit, but then again no more so than "Oh by the way, when you are released from casualty just pop down the station and we will give you a crime number so you can claim on your insurance"

Resources what resources, in this day and age bearing in mind the above priority issue. Two female officers were sent to a possible report of a burglary. Forget what actually happened (despite the fact that this no mark of a man had been reported as being seen in the area and was being helped by the local misunderstood.) Just exactly how would those two ladies have handled the situation if the burglars were still in the process of nicking the family jewels and pissing and shitting on the matrimonial bed (sorry to be course but lets have a sense of reality here.). Contrary to popular belief the burglar or burglars would not have instantly thrown up there arms and shouted "It's a fair cop guv,cuff me immediately and show me to your car"
I could prattle on forever, not good for my blood pressure. Bottom line is time the public realised just how serious the situation is and attempt to support the Police or at least understand the predicament they are in. Rant over :O)

Talking of men on bikes, I hope you all wear your cycling helmets when going out on your bikes. My brother was smashed into from behind the police believe between 50mph - 60mph by a BLIND (as thats all he can be as he was on a straight road) driver.
The helmet does not look a pretty sight crumpled and smashed in but has saved his life. Hes been in hospital for a week with a cracked leg as well as a sewn up back but should make a full recovery and get back to work before the new year.
