So Bernie gets his free place in a secure retirement home, but where is the money. Perhaps the feds should start digging on Mt Sion?

Madoff's Ponzi scam has by his own admission being going on for a couple of decades. It is quite possible funds were slowly moved possibly through London to Israel and invested in companies and real estate. It would be very difficult to unravel, whereas just keeping the money in accounts in tax havens is too obvious.Madoff had a plan to hide the money he stole and leaving it in bank accounts was probably not part of that plan.

cynic who knows, most jews like to send money to Israel for various reasons. Don't forget the old saying "Jesus saves Moses invests".

who says? ... for sure there are a number of very worthy jewish-orientated charities that may or may not be based in israel, which some (not necessarily jews) will choose to support, but that is a million miles from what you are saying.
at the end of the day madoff, like most wealthy people, is/was a business man and it is almost inconceivable that more than a small proportion (if any) of his cash would have been placed there

i don't remotely, but i most strongly object to the stance of some that there is a link with him being jewish.
perhaps not very well, but i have tried to highlight that BM would probably have been just as successful in his swindle had he been Confusian (if you like!), the backbone for it all being his business CV

Cynic, the strange thing for me, looking superficially at Jewish history, is for how long the Jews, as entity have been vilified throughout history and in such a large number of countries. I would suppose it due initially to being wanderers and then traders, but with commercial, family or cultural connections.
Out of interest, I had a look at the persecution of Jews and the plague. I wondered what the hygiene connection was. For various reasons, I was a little sceptical that personal hygiene was of particular value in preventing particular disease. Although, storage of food, etc. and avoidance of vermin would have been.
However, I did come across this Website which seems more probable as the cause of the persecution.

Ps, I am supposing that the information is factual.

Fred1new : that last post has nothing to do with the subject in question...Madoff is the subject and there seems to be plenty like him out there, more fraudsters to uncover...

Boiler room scams...I've had dodgy calls from people trying to sell land and shares, the police need to trap these people.

Talking of fraudsters, Robert Maxwell is a interesting case, apparently fell or jumped of a boat near Tenerife. I don't normally go for conspiracy theories, but there is no way he would have committed suicide, he lived out the rest of his naturel life in Israel.

We'd all be better off if there was no such thing as religion, it's a cloak to hide behind. In this day and age no one believes in God, just greed for more of someone else's property. Which is the basis of why we're all on this board, to make money.
The fact is we want the oil price to go up, we want the world to buy more oil and polute the world's atmosphere. Who on here gives a s**t, we all do well out of our share dealing, and thats all we care about.

RF .... you are correct, but Fred's post is interesting for all that.
The easy bit ..... the plague, which had regular outbreaks until about 1720 (in UK) i think, was spread by fleas ...... it follows that general and personal hygiene will discourage the flea's occurrence in the immediate environment - e.g. on the person and/or in the home.
Now to persecution ..... in the Middle Ages, the Jews were banned from practicing almost all trades in many countries so found themselves almost forced to take up money-lending - a bit simplified, but sufficient for the purpose.
At that time, many or even most Jews wore distinctive clothing, so were easily identified. In times of economic hardship, either personal or general, it was easier to "persecute the Jews" than to repay what was owed. For all that, it is somewhat ironic that after a while, the Jews were often invited back to those self-same countries, for they had all the right contacts etc for the raising of necessary funds.

Cynic, Read http://www.avma.org/reference/zoonosis/znplague.asp
You will probably understand what I am getting at. Cleanliness or hygiene is useful, but the source is often the main problem. Clean kids going to school come back with scabies, lice, etc.. Washing does not prevent this.
The use of various herbs was attempted to prevent infestations. Rue being one of the herbs, which was placed as "flooring". The strange thing about Rue is it is quite a potent "allergen" and often causes skin rashes in gardeners.
Balerboy, you are of course writing about you own values?

cynic why not stop trying to hide the facts Madoff is a self confessed thief who preyed on those of the same religious conviction, his victims include elderly people with not a great deal of knowledge of Wall Street. Madoff was ruthless from day one he exploited his jewish background and has stolen a huge amount of money. Trust is a fine thing but when it comes to money beware, in this case those who trusted Madoff because he is a jew were sadly mistaken.
